Well Played Nicola!

There's only real leverage in this IF there's a referendum, and IF the UK vote to leave the EU.

There may well be a referendum, but people won't vote to leave.

Nicola's playing a clever game though. It's important to keep on make people realising that the interests of Scotland do not always run concurrently with the interests of the UK.

Playing Devil's Advocate here but wonder how it will go down if the vote was very close and the Scottish vote tipped it into a remain in Europe?

Would be quite funny to see some of those happy at the Indy outcome go ape because of how our country voted.

That point has been debated on Wings Over Scotland today:

" What then of public opinion in England? How would UKIP and southern Tories take that?"

There's some fun to be had here...

I read today that 55,000 people in scotland die every year on average, presumably most of them old. After 5 years with a similar number of young voters coming onto the electoral register it fair changes the demographic.... Especially when you consider we were only 192k short of the line......

Uproar, I'm sure I read that majority of 16 and 17 year olds voted no, something like 58%. Not a big majority but surprised me.

You possibly read that in a Lord Ashcroft poll done shortly after the referendum which looked at age and gender of voters. A big problem with that one was they only polled 14 people aged 16-17 years old !

Thank you for that. Out of all the facts and figures from the vote that was the one that really got to me, especially as I know a lot of 16 and 15 year olds who were unable to vote but supported Yes.

The stats i seen were 16-17 year olds voted yes by 71% ? So is this stat rubbish as i have seen it floating about a few times

That is The Lord Ashcroft stat.

I don't know where the other one comes from.

Rather than thinking about the replacement of elderly with youth, we should be looking to increase the penetration of social media and alternative news outlets to those whose only version of the truth is delivered by the BBC, Record and Daily Mail.

Sad to see someone who cant come back from a loss... totally defeated, rolling over... totally negative.

He is just posting a fact. Even if we all bounce back and try to counter it they will decide in the end of the day. That doesn't mean we all have to stop trying but it remains a reality.

As others have said 71% of 16 and 17 year olds voted yes according to the Ashcroft poll.

However, a grand total of 14 people in that age group were polled. 10 voted yes and 4 voted no.

Meaningless I think.

sorry but it does matter. The over 65s cannot be 'blamed' for the result.... mainly the Yes campaign and the media carry responsibility for how things could have been different.

However there is a stubborn and inbuilt loyalty in that large demographic which is historical and cultural and which was formed in the post war period up to the 70s. This is both political and one of identity. Losing quarter of a million people who have those stubborn and immovable attitudes changes the game significantly.

no intention to be morbid but it can't simply be dismissed..... many of them will be deid.

How many young Scots will continue to leave however?

sadly that is true but my point is that most people outside of this demographic are more flexible - in that older demographic they have a strong allegiance to Britain as a country and it is nearly impossible to reason with....
