TheBoysinGreen
Myself and the lads are very much looking forward seeing what Glasgow has to offer. What bars would the Tartan Army suggest we go to for pints on a Thursday night. We'd be looking for an old traditional bar with a bit of life in it. Any suggestions? Also what bars would you suggest before the game near Celtic Park? Thanks in advance and if you have any questions about Dubln fire them this way

glasgow jock
The Louden Bar - It's on Duke Street, you'll all get a great welcome there Mind wear your national flag
Angus_Young
Couple of bad men in this thread. Keep away from Waxy's or Wetherspoons, can get something like that in every city in Europe. Old style bar with a bit of life in it? The Iron Horse, Horseshoe or McCuill's would be my shout. First two are right in the City Centre. McCuill's is a regular haunt of pour when we are going to the Barras for a gig but is only about a 5/10 minute stagger from George Square

Live music, 15 minute walk to Celtic Park, and I believe that there will be a mix of Scottish and Irish Supporters there. Tickets are available on ticketmaster. Prior to that Iron Horse near the city centre is always busy - and open for drinks from 8.30am - we usually go there every Scotland home game! Usually a decent atmosphere. Nothing wrong with the Iron Horse - In my opinion, usually have a good hour or 2 in there before heading to the Ferry. Going to the Barras this time as it's handy for Celtic Park. Plenty of decent boozers to choose from.....and most will have a good atmosphere. Horseshoe is usually decent too. Squirrelhumper
The Goose is gone. It's hardly gone. Same pub, same sh1te that drink in it, just a different name.

er yir macaroon
Horseshoe for authenticity. Scotia Bar and Babbity Bowsters for some traditional live music.
McVinceSCT
I think there is live music every night in maggie mays too. Not far away from city center.

Maggie Mays would be a decent shout for the Thurdsday night - bands a re usually decent, decent beer and a decent pub. And fairly central - Argyll Street. Alan
It can also depend on your age group. Some of the pubs that have been mentioned on here are atrocious (Goose, Merchant for example) especially for a Thursday night if you are wanting a bit of a normal Glasgow night out. For a mixed group I would say the Merchant City area of Glasgow suits all and is in the centre. http://www.merchantcityglasgow.com/ Babbity Bowster is a nice relaxed pub and would be good to start your night. You can also eat in here. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/babbity-bowster-glasgow Rab Has is another nice pub. Quite small but does very good food. http://www.rabhas.com/ Blackfriars is a very good pub that has a very good selection of ales and lagers. Sometimes has live music but at a level where you can still chat and hear yourself think. (I love going to gigs but bands in pubs do my nut in). http://www.blackfriarsglasgow.com/ If you want curry then this place is my favourite in the area http://www.dakhin.com/ OR If you want to go to West End which you will probably miss out on game day then there are good places here too. It's where Glasgow Uni is based. The Lismore is a nice pub on Dumbarton Road. If you like Whisky this is the place. 5 min walk up to Byers Road with lots of pubs there. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/lios-mor-glasgow The Aragon would be a good place to start if Lismore is a bit out the way. Small and traditional. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/the-aragon-glasgow Tennents Bar is a very traditional large pub. Always busy with a decent buzz. http://www.thetennentsbarglasgow.co.uk/ Curlers Rest has been renovated in past few years. It's still a pub but smart instead of being a student place. http://www.thecurlersrestglasgow.co.uk/ Oran Mor is a very large place in a former church. The main bar is huge and always busy. http://www.oran-mor.co.uk/bars/whisky-bar/ Taxis in Glasgow are cheap when compared to London or even Edinburgh so buzzing around the city is easy to do. WeLuvIrnBru
Always find The Piper just off george square to be a decent boozer for a pint or 2 on the way to Merchant City. Edited October 23, 2014 by WeLuvIrnBru
