I remember being in a pub for this Wednesday night away game against Moldova. A certain mr vogts had been sent to the stand due to an outburst about the ball being over the line the Saturday before against Norway. (chick young was mainly to blame for this)

This was a dyer affair watching Scotland and the game was a 1-1 draw when big Seven Thomson scored. I remember wanting the game to end in a defeat due to how bad we were and so that it would force the SFA's hand. Sad state of affairs after less than 3 games into a campaign but E motions sometimes run riot.

NOt many celebratory shouts in da pub this Wednesday but the best thing was the boooing when ever Vogt's mug was zoomed in on. The sound was "booooo ayyyyyaaaaa kwuntttt…. p1ss off ya German basa…." Game finally over and that was the end of Berti's reign as top jock. Time for a new era, it's just a shame the push qualification is now gone.

Still, so long as the dog played I'm happy.

And the other notable fallout from this game was what?

Maybe you had to have been there to remember that one.

One of my favourite away trips without question.

Agreed.

We did the Bucharest then overnight train route. Was a brilliant laugh on the way up. Not so great on the way back when we all felt like keech. We ended up staying an extra night in Chisinau we like it that much.

Also, without any shadow of a doubt the cheapest trip (bevvy wise) we've ever been on.

Sh1te game tho in a crumbling stadium. Wee Berti was sat right in front of us in the stand with Russell Anderson and Stephen Pearson (or Gary Holt - some ginger anyway) as bodyguards. Actually felt a bit sorry for the wee man. The pelters he was taking were excruciating.

IMHO that was probably one of the last true classic away trips :ok:

Been good away trips since, but nothing that compares to the adventure that was.

I went via Ukraine to meet the Mrs in her city and then got the over night bus from Lviv to Chisinau (something like 13 hours)... eventually fell asleep only to be woken up at the border by some Ukrainian Robocop guy.... taken off the bus thinking I was going to get the full search  Mrs starts talking to him in Ukrainian and after a few minutes she pauses with this confused look on her face and turns to me saying "he wants one of your football shirts....." this set me aback, then was explained that he did not believe I was a football fan (the border police had been told hardly any Scotland fans were traveling and for sure none would be coming via Ukraine!) and he actually thought I was one of the Scotland players who must play for a team in Ukraine and traveling to meet up with the squad for the match :-)):-)):-))

Remember Chisinau getting a bad rap before we had left, but I actually liked it :ok:

Never forget how stupidly cheap it was..... eatting in this restaurant and asked for the bill after having a steak that was the leg of the cow, 5 or 6 bottles of wine, and countless beers + vodka.... Glenn gets the bill and is shocked... asks for the waitress for the bill for the whole table, not just him.... she replies grumpily "that is for the whole table!" as it turned out to be no more than £4 or 5 each :wtf:

Some of the most magnificent red wine of which it has ever been my privilege to partake.

I am not a wine drinker in any way, but that trip to Moldova got me hooked on the stuff, and really struggled to find anything as good since.

it sounds great to be there but for the pubchair fan it was awful to watch. Wouldn't have minded a dire or dyer game if we has sneaked a win somehow. The 2 games before this one were our downfall. (0-0 slovenia and 0-1 Norway)

As were 0-0 in Minsk (not a bad trip at all!) and 0-1 at home (Hleb after 5 minutes and thereafter..............no reaction). WS could and should have got more from us in both of those games.

That was a section we should have qualified from, no contest.

eh no. Italy were always going to win the group and i wouldn't fancy our chances in a play off against another 2nd placed team from one of the other groups.

I accept that it's about opinions - my view is that we were a better team than we had been the previous tournament where we had reached the play-offs.

We messed it up at the beginning for sure, but we still had realistic chances of a play-off spot when WS came in up until we codded the Belarus game.

No idea anymore who was in the play-offs, and that's speculation anyway. The important thing is to be there, and we weren't.

Shame Levein never got the abuse Berti got. We'd maybe have got rid of him before he ruined our world cup hopes.

He did from the fans, the ones I came across anyway. Potters only saving Grace that kept his failings from the spotlight so long was the fact he played so much golf with his pals in meedja

i honestly don't think we do play offs well. I think we stand a better chance at beating a team in a one off game.

That's exactly why the play offs are formatted the way they are. A big team could falter in one game (Holland v us 1-0) but they'll no falter twice (6-0).

UEFA looking after the big guns ?

Moldova was a mental trip. Went with Charlie Endell and Flora Madonald. Two nights in Bucharest and a mad couple of days in Chisinau.

The vodka was lethal. Had one of the worst hangovers known to man and had to endure the 14 hour train journey back to Bucharest.

Memorable trip!

One of the best. So many tales from that trip, but the sesh with the U.S. Air Force was brilliant.
