jenblueeyes
How easy is it to get from Parkhead to Queen Street after the game for the last train back to Edinburgh?? You could just go to Bellgrove and get the Helensburgh to Edinburgh train. It'll take just over an hour from Bellgrove but probably quicker than going into town and back out again. Edited to say Bellgrove is a 10 minute walk from Parkhead and you'll be able to get on a train ahead away from Glasgow no problem. They run every half hour though and I think the last one is around 10 pm. Edited October 30, 2014 by jenblueeyes

Doric
Thought the Helensburgh train only went to Airdrie. Isn't it one of those local lines. Helensburgh Upper is main one but is part of Queen St to Fort William line.
Charlie Endell
They reopened Airdrie to Bathgate - you can now get a direct train from Helensburgh to Edinburgh (passes through Queen Street low level). Even the 'express' ones are pretty tedious, but it can cut out going in to Queen Street and then effectively doubling back on yourself. I got it from Waverley to Garrowhill once as I fancied a pit stop in the Clachan on the way home - it seemed to stop at every one-horse town in West Lothian. Doric
Cheers Charlie. Long time since I used that line. Moved away from that area (Bonhill)in 02.

I've lived within 15 minutes walking distance of that pub pretty much all my life - apart from a stint in Fife and London - and I've only stepped foot in it once. It's a decent enough service if you live to one of the stations on the line - takes me just over an hour from the Easterhouse station to Edinburgh on the slow train and it's always pretty quiet even in rush hour. Works well for me getting over to Reeky/Reeky Burd's house as they are just a short taxi drive from Bathgate station.
Charlie Endell
Er, aye, the Clachan . I was on my way back York and was looking for a few pints to round off the weekend - my mate is a regular in there - any port in a storm and all that. It's like the Führerbunker inside - well, maybe not quite as well appointed. Edited November 2, 2014 by Charlie Endell
rosscarnie
How busy is the train from Bellgrove to Edinburgh after the game likely to be?
jenblueeyes
How busy is the train from Bellgrove to Edinburgh after the game likely to be? Hard to say as this is the first time there's been a Scotland game at Parkhead since the line opened. As a rule, it's a very quiet service but if Scotrail are the normal diddies that they are, it will just be the normal four coaches as it's outwith rush hour. Might be worth sending them an email to get some 8 coach trains running after the game. Maybe someone that goes to Celtic games will be able to shed some light on what it's like heading away from Glasgow as it's always stowed out heading from Bellgrove into town. AndyMcWell_SCFC
How busy is the train from Bellgrove to Edinburgh after the game likely to be? No Idea but my buddies coming over from Ireland are staying in Edinburgh for the weekend. I wonder how many more will be doing the same? I guess I'd best give them a heads up. littleboyblue
Another option might be to get the train from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh that goes through Uddingston, Bellshill etc and in via Wester Hails, Slateford etc. Rutherglen would be the best bet for getting on at. Not the quickest train but avoids going back in to Glasgow.
Bristolhibby
Staying at my cousins in Glasgow. Will be getting the train back to Edinburgh at my leisure on Saturday morning. J
kevmac
Aye that train changed a while ago H..it used to go to Drumgelloch but they introduced a new service to Edinburgh.....means now we get a toilet on every 2nd train back home again.....21st Century Helensburgh m8......... Bellgrove 2204 and 2235 to Edinburgh Waverley.... We'll get a carry oot and get the 2234 the other way........back in time for a couple of pints in the Logie Baird.......
