jailender
IRB have said that after 2016 Scotland will cease to host the 7s, with France taking over. Given our recent performances, possibly not a major shock, but must be a financial hit to SRU.
stocky
Did we no invent Rugby 7's?
SMcoolJ
Seems a shame given the attendances at Ibrox. Perhaps showed the promise the sport has in Scotland....

I'd like to see them try to build the domestic sevens up a bit in the absence of the IRB series. Try and get a few of the tourneys before Melrose on Alba, help to finance a few more invitation teams or make Melrose a two-day affair, that kind of thing. As the borders railway will be open later next year, it makes it a more viable proposition to market heavily.
jailender
The Borders 7s have always been good, albeit Melrose is by far the biggest. Used to have some great days at Gala and Selkirk.

I think that was more to do with it being the Commonwealth games. Compare the attendance for the athletics for the grand prix meeting in June or the indoor meetings with the full houses for the CGs, or any of the other sports to be honest. I had a very drunk day at Selkirk in my teens. Someone I used to know has a daughter from that day (not me).

I don't disagree with that. Not suggesting we'd see the same figures as attended the CG's, just seems like it had potential for some knock on increased interest in the annual 7's. We'll find out next year I suppose.
