@neaver82
The boy bags another two goals today. In Gord I Trust but he is so wrong in keeping this boy out of the squad. He is a pure goal machine and particularly against Gibraltar we could do with his eye for goal.

Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
Couldn't agree more . Fletcher can't buy a goal . Rhodes is a penalty box striker , just what we will need against Gibraltar who will have 11 men sitting in their box .
Dodger
It's hard to ignore him but it's only worth strachan bringing him in if he sees him as a long term option. Hardly fair to the lad to pitch him in against Gibraltar then sending him back to the sidelines.

aaid
Strachan appears to have decided that Rhodes doesn't fit into the system he wants to play. I'll be surprised if he's called up.
girvanTA
I dont doubt for 1 min that Strachan hasnt thought about Rhodes and his lack of involvement, but Rhodes is a goal machine and if he was polish or Irish, he would be in their squads and probably get a game aswell

tartanpar
I would have Rhodes in the squad if it was me selecting it. However, Strachan does not seem to fancy him for the system he plays. Blackburn dont select him when they play 1 up front too. I think he is a great player to have on the bench if we need someone to come on to get us a goal with 20 mins to go. The Gibraltar game would surely be perfect for Rhodes to start and get a couple of goals.
girvanTA
How do you know that a player doesnt fit into youre system if you dont select him? also why does Fletcher seem to get the nod before anyone else
tartanpar
When you hear Rhodes being interviewed about being selected for Scotland he sounds like the model professional and says all the right things. However a couple of years back he was selected for Scotland many times but pulled out of loads of squads injured then played for Blackburn the following game every time. Perhaps there is more to it than we think (perhaps not though).
Caledonian Craig
How do you know that a player doesnt fit into youre system if you dont select him? also why does Fletcher seem to get the nod before anyone else Not hard to answer. Rhodes doesn't fit in to playing lone striker role - even Blackburn don't play him in that role. He is not a player who will hold the ball up and lay the ball off to supporting players. That is the type of striker Strachan prefers and he has that in Naismith and Fletcher first and foremost. Rhodes is a poacher-type striker and I cannot recall the last time we (Scotland) scored a goal poacher-type goal. Handsome22Devil
I never understand why we don't call him up - football is a squad game, are our options really that strong up front we have no room for a natural scorer? So what he if he doesn't fit into the system in certain matches, he's just what we need in others. It's then up to the manager to keep everyone motivated, if not exactly happy with the rotation situation, and delivering. Ultimately it's a results business so at the minute it's hard to criticise Strachan - but if we labour against Gibraltar or, even worse, fail to find a goal needed to win or draw against Ireland in June despite dominating for long spells, excluding Rhodes will seem a serious mistake. girvanTA
Naismith v Poland was a poacher goal.
Caledonian Craig
Naismith v Poland was a poacher goal. Okay so Naismith can score those goals as well. It just proves he is more an all-round striker whereas Rhodes is more one dimensional or else why are Scotland and Blackburn refusing to play him up front alone. girvanTA
Dont know, was just wondering that myself. I think, now this is just my opinion that Rhodes deserves to be in the squad and that Fletcher has had a piss poor season
VivaLaAndy
I would call him up. He is the best natural goalscorer we have. He is always there for a plan B should we fail to break through teams.
dougiemacfarlanearran
Never understood why he doesn't fit in to strachans system?!?!? Surely at worst he can adapt to running about all night not scoring just like fletcher does if he really puts his mind to it?
Robroysboy
Strachan doesn't fancy Rhodes ability to play in his system of lone striker. Will he change his system for Gibraltar? Time will tell but would be suprised to see Jordan in the march squad.
Templeton_Peck
Get him in the squad.. so much talk of May, watt and Griffiths.. I would put Rhodes and McCormack in before all of them. our 4 best strikers imo is Fletcher, Naismith, Rhodes and McCormack. 4 different players that can play different roles for us.. Caledonian Craig
Dont know, was just wondering that myself. I think, now this is just my opinion that Rhodes deserves to be in the squad and that Fletcher has had a piss poor season I think that is too simplistic thinking. Fletcher has had a poor season but he still contributes to the Scotland team even when in poor club form and that is all that matters. Set up Anya V Germany with a lovely through ball (certainly couldn't see Rhodes doing that) and also set up another of our goals as well in this campaign with link-up play. That link-up play is what our current playing style is founded on hence it suits Fletcher far more than it does Rhodes.

girvanTA
too simplstic thinking?? As posted earlier thats just my opinion on it. 1 goal in 18 for Scotland for a forward is hellish, lets say 4 assists in all isnt any better. I think we need to agree to disagree
