4 days ago apparently. In this day and age it's unusual for a death to go unannounced for so long.

Maybe they just wanted to make absolutely sure?

He told a great story about being on holiday in Italy with his wife, driving through the countryside on a dark wet night when the car broke down. He spotted the lights of a farmhouse in the distance so traipsed across muddy fields to see if he could use the phone.

The farmer answered the door and fainted, he'd been watching a Dracula film and got up from the telly to find the star of the film looking particularly horrific on his doorstep!

As well as the Hammer stuff, he was a brilliant Bond Villain, his performance as Lord Summerisle in The Wicker Man is immense and he also features in both the Star Wars prequels and the Lord of The Rings trilogy.

While the latter wouldn't have been my cup of tea its a pretty impressive CV.

You just saved me typing that - he was superb as Scaramanga and particularly Lord Summerisle.

Scaramanga's one of my favourite Bond villains. He gave a great performance in that film. Was he not related to Ian Flemming somehow?

Sad news, but 93 is a great innings.

He was brilliant as well when he played the goody because it always threw you and you were awaiting him to turn out to be a baddy

The Devil Rides Out in particular

RIP Francisco

And

In his illustrious career the only actor to play both Holmes brothers (Sherlock & Mycroft) and Lord Henry Baskerville
