  1. Interesting arguments & I get as annoyed as anyone that the English leagues get so much whilst in Scotland we get the scraps - even more so at folk who bemoan the standard of Scottish football whilst they ignore it & 'support' man u/city/liverpool etc - they might as well support Coronation Street! For me though part of the problem is the way we slavishly try to emulate the leagues down south thinking that'll mean we'll automatically get megabucks too - for example: Renaming the leagues to 'premiership, championship' etc - load of toss that means nothing Having (relatively) large all seater stadia because of the Taylor report, which didn't really apply here (I do admit that the grounds needed modernising, but it just meant that clubs had to spend A LOT of cash when their budget or crowds couldn't sustain it). For me we should stop trying to directly compete & actually use what's different as a selling point - then build on that. For example: Summer football - lets do it! I reckon it'd widen the exposure of the league. Bring back beer sales at grounds, it'd probably have to be weakened beer, but it'd be a great revenue stream for clubs. Safe standing - I'm all for it, helps the atmosphere Get someone who's actually good at marketing these things to help, dare I say Barry Hearn?! Look what he did with darts & snooker - they are PUB GAMES FFS!!! Once you have those things &/or other things too, it might generate a bit more revenue/advertising & a better TV deal, the standard might improve & then more people start watching, more money made available to the clubs, better players, standard improves etc etc. Anyway, just my 2p's worth.
  2. I am, I was very cynical when I worked on my first agile project but it does work well when run properly. Agree about the BA's - they're either really good or really bad, not much in between! Good thing about the approach is that even if the business doesn't know their requirements, they can all say early doors "That's not what we wanted!" then hopefully articulate why & what is needed next. A good read on how to ( or how not to) run projects is "The Phoenix Project", some of the characters will ring true to anyone who's worked in business/IT.
  3. I totally agree about the rudderless/blame game, however not about the detailed requirements spec. Almost every project I've seen with detailed requirements/design docs up front take much longer to complete & has so much waste it's unbelievable - mainly this problem stems from users/stakeholders not knowing in detail what they really want. Most good projects now have high-level design/requirements up front & this is broken down into more detailed requirements that go onto a backlog & are delivered to the end-user as quickly as possible - this way feedback is given repeatedly & this informs future requirements so the users/stakeholders get what they want, quicker. I almost went to work on the AFRC project but didn't on the recommendation from someone I trust who'd worked there & said it was a basket case. I did some work on another Scottish Gov project though & it was one of the best projects I've ever worked on. We had motivated, highly skilled & empowered teams who worked really well together & we delivered a good product on time.
  4. Hi, Anyone still looking for hiking/walking boots, I got a pair of these & they're cracking... http://www.uttings.co.uk/p119542-dolomite-sparrow-evo-high-gtx-walking-boots-carbon-yellow-855553-c-y/#.Vq3w0_GOOnc Gore-tex, waterproof & really sturdy. I got them for 70-odd but they're down to £62 now.
  5. Better players than Celtic? That's a good point! Remind me, which team ended up buying some of United's players to presumably improve their squad? I'm glad we agree :-) Except about the bit where you say we think St Johnstone could never be better than United - I and others have already stated that St Johnstone as a team were clearly better than United on most of the occasions where it mattered - the fact that they did this with supposedly inferior players makes it all the more remarkable.
  6. So what position did your team of better players come in the league that year? ;-) I think St Johnstone were/are a decent workmanlike team who play to their strengths - that's not a criticism, just my opinion & for what it's worth I & most other United fans would give our eye-teeth for that just now! United however were a team of mainly youngsters who on their day played some superb stuff & were a match for anyone. Anyone except it would seem St Johnstone, but I think that's down to the tactical nous (or lack of it) from the respective managers.
  7. if you're not able to to move to Spain (or another Spanish speaking country) best advice I can give is to use a site called iTalki: https://www.italki.com/ Basically you sign up, buy some credits then look for a teacher of the language you want to learn - there are different types of teacher, informal tutors and qualified teachers (they're priced accordingly). You can look at their profile/reviews & most if not all of them do trial lessons. It's all done over Skype - which might seem a bit weird, but it really works well. I can speak a bit of German but wanted to improve my grammar (I sounded like Yoda, getting the words round the wrong way!) so I signed up & have done quite a few lessons with a couple of different teachers - speaking German the whole lesson, which really helps you progress - best thing is that it's up to you how you want the lesson to be, either chatty conversation or a set structure where you look at texts & answer questions. IMO it's the best way to learn a language short of moving to the country - doesn't cost the earth either, a lot of the Spanish teachers live in countries that are not so well off, so are very reasonably priced. One other thing is for vocabulary learning/practice, use a site/app called Memrise - it's excellent. Good luck!
  8. Best flight options from Edinburgh IMO are Germanwings to Cologne (direct) or KLM to Dusseldorf (indirect - but good times) We went over last week for the boxing that got cancelled, we stayed in Dusseldorf & on the saturday we went through to Leverkusen to see them play Stuttgart (our tickets were 29 euros inc train travel). We got tickets downloaded directly from Bayer 04's website. There's a cracking wee sports bar in the Bayarena so it's worth getting there earlier & having a beer/food. On the sunday we went through to Dortmund on the train & whilst the match atmosphere was good, the main square was dead but a good pub option is the Their Brauerei for food/beer - we got tickets from Viagogo, so couldn't use them for free train travel but if you go here you'll get a train ticket for 40 euros + 3 euros for each other person (so we paid 52 euros for 4 of us) that lets you travel all over Germany. We had a brilliant time, the first game was 4-3 to Bayer 04 (after they were 3-1 down) & the second was 5-1 to Dortmund - only downside the whole weekend was some of the folk over for the boxing were getting a bit 'pwoppa naughty' as Danny Dyer would say (wanting to fight German guys etc). We never had any bother though. Have a great time!
  9. Hi, Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but is it possible to change a kids ticket for tonight to an adult one? I've got a lad-n-dad (well, lass-n-dad really) ticket for the game but my kid can't go now. Thanks in advance, Gordon

  11. Really? I thought he just stopped the game too much - as he usually does, such a frustrating ref. One thing was that when Accies were coming back into it, they were persistently fouling & didn't get booked, yet 2 united players commit arguably their first fouls & get booked, bizarre?! Only one of them maybe merited the booking I thought. Still, decent game & I thought Accies were quite unlucky not to get a draw - although united probably had the better chances. Good luck for the season ahead, decent team you've got there.
  12. To be fair Eddard, I don't think that was an option - there was a clear precedent with Gretna for instance. As a United fan my view was not that the new Rangers had to be 'punished' just that as a new entity the logical place for them to start was the bottom tier. After all if the previous entity or indeed their ugly sister had wanted to join the leagues in England, they'd have to probably do the same (start at the bottom). As for the old club/new club thing, I think it's quite clear & I'll illustrate that with an analogy - if you had a dog, lets call it Flossy & Flossy got run over & died because he was a bit reckless off his lead, you get a new dog, you call it The Flossy (or whatever) it might sleep in the same basket, drink from the same bowl, wear the same (orange? ;-) ) collar & answer to the same name, but it'll never be Flossy - still in one way they're the same because The Flossy seems to show the same flagrant disregard for traffic & odds are that he'll get run over soon as well!
