Green_Tide_Rising
In answer to the original post, Republic might have the best defensive record in the group and have only lost 1 match, but you have to take into account that you still have 2 of your most difficult games to play. You had Germany away at the beginning when they were still getting over their World Cup hangover. If Germany play like they did at Hampden you will get a lesson without a doubt. The agricultural dross played under O'Neill will not make any impression on the modern football played by the Germans. Republic fans said to me after the Parkhead game that we were lucky. I didnt think so as we were the only team trying to play football. Witness the second half in Dublin, long ball after long ball. If we don't qualify it will be because we made an arse of it against Georgia, not because Republic are a better team. If you qualify you will lose every game same as you're last tournament appearance. To be fair i dont know what ROI fans you were talking to after Parkhead - but the vast majority of us were off the opinion that ye were the better team deservedly won. Germany played in 2nd gear against ye in Hampden and they made it look very comfortable....they were never under threat at any stage.....thats just the unfortunate reality....the same unfortunate reality, i expect will be present when they play us in Dublin. While Germany were suffering a world cup hangover when we got our result over there....they were suffering the same hangover when ye played them ....the only difference...we got the result. Bringing up reference to our previous results in EURO 2012 is pointless....we were in a group with bloody Croatia, Spain and Italy...we are nowhere near that level ....and the reality is Scotland would have suffered the same faith....purely because both our countries are so technically inept when it comes to international football due to lack of investment in both our underage structures. Final positions in Groups normally give a good idea on where teams are in general.........ive no interest in discussing the "whos a better team" nonsense Ye got results against us but that was countered by us getting results in Germany and Georgia (where ye couldnt) As for predictions for our countries over the next 2 games............dont have a clue Edited October 4, 2015 by Green_Tide_Rising

The Black Bra
Scotland 1-1 Poland Gibraltar 0-2 Scotland Ireland 0-2 Germany Poland 0-0 Ireland In that scenario a draw in Georgia would have made the difference. Can't believe we could win head to heads v Poland and Ireland and still miss out. This would be the most typically 'Scotland' thing to happen. Actually, that would be beating Poland then drawing with Gibralter. Edited October 4, 2015 by The Black Bra

PASTA Mick
No chance we'll finish 3rd. Even if we get our results, they'd go against us elsewhere. I think 1-1 v Poland and 4-0 v Gibraltar.

Green_Tide_Rising
I think you'll find we took 4 points off you guys so we are a wee bit better than you I think you will find we took 6 points of Georgia whereas ye took just 3 I think you will find we took at least 1 point of Germany where ye have taken zero off them in 2 games If you want to say ye balls'd up against Georgia ....then we could say that we balls'd up against Scotland....that excuse works both ways If ye are better than us then ye will finish ahead of us in the group.....and vice versa. I have no interest in the who is better debate mate ------- the better team will be shown at the end of the group when we know the final group standings At the end of the day ....the better team is the one who can get the results consistently over the entire qualification campaign and qualify.....it maybe Scotland, it Maybe Ireland. bossman4
I think we'll take at least 4 points. Can see Thursday being another 2-2 or something like that. The bigging up of Poland is unrea. Below us in the rankings and thats with us loosing in Georgia. Yes they have a world class striker who's on fire at the moment but I think they can be got at, their not good enough at the back to sit in and soak it up. We proved that a year ago. Wouldn't suprise me if ROI take something in Warsaw as well.

I am pretty sure we will get a performance off the players, we all saw the reaction to the tiblisi performance against Germany. If we weren't playing the WC winners that performance would normally get you three points. I am feeling positive about thursday and let the poles come to hampden with confidence about their star striker, complacency could work in our favour.
