Byrne2711
For those who wear them to games! (Let's not get into people who don't agree with it taking over the topic) Any problems when travelling by plane? Any snags going through security with sporran etc? kiltman069
Never had any issues. Just the usual remove belt, sporran, kilt pin before going through scanner.
deecie
If you have a proper kilt, it's a very comfortable way to travel. If you have a £20 kilt off Princess Street it's not. Regards, HoldLuggage TA

DoonTheSlope
Seemingly if you turn it to the side it's easier to go through.... Or so I keep getting told at Stansted
Goozay
Never had any issues. Just the usual remove belt, sporran, kilt pin before going through scanner. This, plus expect the buckles on your kilt to set off the scanner so you will get patted down before you can put your sporran and belt back on again. If you're wearing Caterpillar or walking boots they'll often ask you to take them off too so they can X-ray them.
Flure
Sporran, kilt pin and belt off. Spin the kilt so that the buckles are at the front and back.
CallumAyr
I don't travel in my kilt, all the hassle of taking it off etc.

Rory
No issues with travelling in it, like mentioned only need to take sporran etc off when going through security. I've never set the beeper off when I've moved it sideways, don't understand the logic but there ye go! Surely it shouldn't affect the scanner if it's facing the front or the side ?? jock strap
Was seriously asked at Gatwick by a security guard what was under my kilt. It was only the intervention of a Police Officer who stopped a potential international incident happening !
Haitch
Some of the fussier airlines do not like you taking the sgian-dubh
jailender
I would have thought that a sgian-dubh would be at total no-no with any airline
peever1745
Seemingly if you turn it to the side it's easier to go through.... Or so I keep getting told at Stansted Thats works for me 95% of the time.Just remove your belt and sporran then turn your kilt round so the buckles are at the front and back.Oh and remember to remove your sgian dhu, dirk and sword before going through security. They draw the line wae muskets though. Bristolhibby
Sporran, kilt pin and belt off. Spin the kilt so that the buckles are at the front and back. This. Dont know why but it works, save muchos hassle getting patted down. J
thewelk
This. Dont know why but it works, save muchos hassle getting patted down. J I think...you're basically being scanned in slices so the front of you is getting scanned before the back. Without turning the kilt you've got more metal in the scanned slice at one time so it passes a threshold and sets off the scanner. When you turn it, one buckle gets done before the other and the amount of metal at any one time is lower. In that case some of you will have a good metre between buckles so one buckle will be out of the scanner before the next one even comes in. Hobta83
In recent years i've decided not to travel in it, far too much hassle.
McVinceSCT
Can't remember which airport but security told me something like "you won't go in in some airports with your kilt pin". They let met go and never had any problems in airports with it.
TartanTon
the buckle option deffo works but it is a pain taking everything else off and no good when they say arms out and the kilt falls down.
scottincarlisle
Never had any problems apart from getting kilt pin measured in Dublin. The 90° trick always seems to work.
