This is not happening. FIFA say both WCs will be held where already appointed. No dodgy stuff there !

Of course FIFA will say that. Russia and Qatar will simply come out and tell the world about the bribes paid to each and every corrupt official.

While the conduct of FIFA leaves a lot to be desired, I'm still irritated by the moral high-ground chasing arrogance and sheer glee/bitterness (not even sure how they manage to combine those two) of the English FA and media. They invented association football don't you know.

Was trying to listen to talksport this morning through a shect medium radio, and you could hear colin murray practically whanking himself stupid over this. As you say fifa are a corrupt bunch, something we have known for years, it's doubtful whether this'll make a difference to fifa long term, especially wi blatter still going to be in charge. The english media in that press conference were insistent that they should vote again for the world cups, but there is no way that is going to happen.

Cretinous remark. Yes, the smugness of the English media is the real issue here. :hammer:

"Leaves a lot to be desired" is a very kind way of putting what FIFA has been getting up to.

Well done to them for uncovering the trough of corruption and the parlous state that the world game is in as a result.

Now hopefully this Qatar nonsense will be killed stone dead and Australia will get 2022 instead.

Id be surprised if this was not all a big ruse

Maybe FIFA are looking for a get out of Qatar

God knows what the situation will be in that region in the next 7 months never mind the next 7 years

i really hope this is the beginning of the end for all these FIFA bawbags. They must spent their whole year being wined and dined and put up in 5 star hotels.

Where's Blatter btw? I bet you he's on a private plane heading for a top hotel in Qatar.

England 2018 and Australia 2022 would be great.

The media are part of the problem though, especially in Europe. I'm merely a pleb but even I know Fifa is corrupt, something the media should be highlighting all the time, not just with the FIB make arrests.

Well done to who? The FBI? Certainly not the whinging FA. They got rejected for 2018 and ever since they haven't stopped crying about it. But no credit can be taken for uncovering anything.

Not the FA, who are far from blameless. The likes of the Sunday Times.

I'm glad the chickens are finally coming home to roost for FIFA, and I don't begrudge English media outlets for being cock-a-hoop that they've been pointing this out for some time and weren't really listened to.

This clearly grates with you. You'd far rather see a big dose of GIRFUY to the Ingerlish than FIFA get its long-overdue comeuppance.

Paris, tbf many in the media have been highlighting this sorry state of affairs for yonks (e.g. Henry Winter), but precious little attention was paid.

The way the fbi work with these cases is they go for the medium guys and then offer them reduced sentences for testimonies and evidence against the guy they want. It's how they took down the mafia dons.

I'll be very suprised if batter hasn't flew to country with poor relations with the US in the next few days.

Apparently none of the Swiss FIFA officials are allowed to leave the country.

I would prefer Warner to go down than Blatter, he is completely corrupt and used the racism card to get rid of John McBeth eight years ago.

He's in charge and let's it happen, let alone what direct involvement he has in it.

What's that old expression about cutting off the snake's head to kill the snake ?

He either know it happened and was involved (more than likely) knows it happened and turned a blind eye or almost unbelievably didn't know what was happening. Whatever way he has to go.

He's been at Fifa since the 70's though, no way he isn't involved in some way.

Blatter hasn't set foot in USA soil for years for fear of arrest by the FBI over corruption charges.

Horrible despicable organisation.

Best quote of the day "finally an American invasion that we can all get behind"

Well I laughed !!

If this doesn't lead to the downfall of FIFA in its' current form the UEFA countries need to walk away. Have a Euros every couple of years and let the rest get on with a World Cup that will struggle to get fans attending, TV viewers or sponsors. Give it a few years and FIFA will disintegrate and a new world organisation will evolve.

Andrew Jennings the Panorama journo who has worked on the FIFA story talked about this yesterday. The BBC and other media have traditionally sent their sports journos to investigate corruption stories,. These guys are not qualified or inclined to ask the pertinent questions. Also they don''t want to lose their press passes to World Cups.

In an interview last night Jennings also said there is a bigger story still to come out.

"BA Herald are reporting that Grondona (former President of AFA) received $15m in bribes for Copa America tv rights.

A copy of the US Department of Justice report into corruption in the FIFA football governing body has implicated late Argentine Football Association president Julio Grondona, who the investigation claims pocketed multi-million dollar bribes related to television rights.

The accusation is based events surrounding the creation of the Datisa group, a conglomerate of Torneos y Competencias, Full Play and Traffic. That company won the rights to screen the 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2023 editions of the Copa America in a contract signed on May 25 2013, according to the Justice Department's report (p. 105).

Datisa accordingly agreed to pay a sum of 100 million dollars in bribes. 20 million were earmarked for the contract signing, with another 20 for each of the four tournaments to be covered. According to the document, the money was shared out with US$3 million each to "the highest officials of the Conmebol [the confederation's president, the Brazilian federation president and the Argentine FA president.]"

Taking those figures into account, Grondona, who passed away in July 2014 having been at the helm of Argentine football since 1979, would have taken a total of US$15m in illicit payments. Although US Attorney-General Loretta Lynch refrained from naming individuals, the report made it clear that the AFA ex-president was involved in the biggest corruption case in FIFA history.
