Charlie Endell
As tight a rhythm section as you'd find... Endell's right about the Stones' winning streak, imho, though the peak achievement was Let It Bleed. Roxy Music were up there for their first three albums but it started to go a bit wrong after that. I saw The Clash, Joy Division and The Smiths so I clearly know of what I speak - and the three best bands ever are The Isley Brothers, Sonic Youth and Can. Fact. Tago Mago is a work of genius - the shuffling rhythms of Halleluhwah were years ahead of their time.
Fairbairn
I've just realised I've went all the way through a best groups thread without mentioning Talking Heads. Probably the only one of my favourite bands/artists where all or most of them are still alive yet I've never seen them live. Their run of albums from Fear of Music to Little Creatures is fantastic. That's an interesting thought: great bands who are all still alive but will never play again? eg. Talking Heads, XTC, The Smiths, Genesis, Husker Du.... I always found Talking Heads highly irritating - 'oh look at how clever we are' - can't stand that tubby fecker Chris Frantz or Byrne. Orraloon
. I always found Talking Heads highly irritating - 'oh look at how clever we are' - can't stand that tubby fecker Chris Frantz or Byrne. At this point, you have just stopped talking sense. Anybody who doesn't like Talking Heads must have a fear of music.

Marky
Yep. Talking Heads (and The Tom Tom Club), XTC and The Cure (up to a point) all great bands. Loved the Cure, then the did The Lovecats and it all went downhill. Only two post Lovecats exceptions were Inbeteeen Days and Catch. Best Cure song ever was A Strange Day. Marky
Disintegration is superb - makes The Smiths sound like Black Lace. If I'm honest I wouldn't know. I was so turned off The Cure after about 1983, all I would have heard would have been singles. I'll take your word for it as you appear to have decent taste. Might even have a listen. Larky Masher
It's a long time since I've been to Girvan - except for passing through on the way to Stranraer. In Scotland we don't really have places to rival Morecambe, Jaywick and Margate for the full Everyday Is Like Sunday effect. Margate is the biggest shithole I have ever been in. When did they stop doing good songs like Fire in Cairo and start putting out stuff with so much echo you couldn't actually any music under it? I took the wife to see then in Hyde Park for her birthday and they were dire. Didn't help that Mogwai were support. Was like listening to a badly tuned radio all night. The last album I bought was Pornography which was about 1982ish. They then brought out 3 singles which I don't think appeared on a studio album. Let's go to bed - good The walk - just bearable The Lovecats - pish. After that I lost interest

Robbo `81
maybe the who in 60/70s any genuine fans that watched glastonbury must have been cringing I'm a big Who fan, but would have to agree with the 2nd line there - I've seen the Who 3 times recently - Twice in 2013 on Quadrophenia tour and last year at Hydro on 1st night of current tour - Each time they were great, definitely still "had it".....But something has happened since then, I think the Glastonbury, and subsequent, setlists have been very "safe", it's as if the attitude now is "Protect Roger's voice at all costs"....I'm going to USA to see them in October and to be honest, I'm almost not looking forward to it -- If they can't hack it live anymore, I'd rather they chucked it than gave us "Who Lite"..... Seems to be quite a common thing now by looks of it - Remember a few critical comments along same lines on here about the recent AC/DC gig at Hampden, definitely felt same watching TV coverage of Motley Crue - of whom I'm def a big fan - at Download -- Had all the hallmarks of going through the motions - and one of my mates whom is a massive Motorhead fan is not interested in trying for tickets for their January gig as he reckons Lemmy can't do it anymore.. Sad really when you see legendary bands - regardless of your own personal tastes - continuing on, a shadow of their former selves, because they can't afford to, or simply can't chuck it..
