OLAS
This is very impressive, if just a tad over the top: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30376774
wembley67lisbon
Looks cracking. Citys owners actually seem to want long term investment in the club and area.

Mee
There is also a department solely dedicated to advising players on such matters as tax, mental health, drinking, drugs and social media. Osborne hailed the complex as a model example for others to follow.

Toepoke
Absolutely incredible facilities. English (and Welsh) football is leaving us trailing behind sadly...
Kirk
Is it Dortmund that have the indoor thing that passes the balls out? That looked impressive, I'd add one of them to the 67 pitches
Return of Yermaw
Absolutely incredible facilities. English (and Welsh) football is leaving us trailing behind sadly... It's a club training facility that leaves behind almost every other club in England. It will benefit Man City's imports - it won't benefit the English league nor dare I say will it benefit the English national team. A Man City youth player has as much chance of playing for the first team as I do. Would old woman hair Hart be the only player homegrown player in the team? He would be if they hadn't signed him from Shrewsbury. From memory the last 2 homegrown players to make any sort of impact on the City first team would have been Joey Barton and Micah Richards. Time will tell if they make they grade at City, but other clubs will certainly benefit from players who don't make it. I agree these facilities are exceptional, but all over England and Wales millions are being spent by clubs on similar, if not as extravagant, developments. Already it's paying dividends, eg. the world's most expensive player is Welsh - FFS who would have believed that!!! And look at the England game the other week, there was a real gulf in quality between the sides that i don't remember being the case back when we played them regularly. jailender
But will they be local or will they be brought in from all over Europe, and poached from other team's youth set-ups?
wanderer
Stan Collymore was talking about it last night on Talksport saying this and what the likes of Chelsea have are there simply for nothing more than just for show (and probably tax breaks), as these clubs don't care for youth development as they want to buy themselves success today rather than invest in the future, and at best it might produce a couple of bench warmers in 5-10 years time as part of league rules about home grown players.... BremnerLorimerGray
Did work on it from when it was in it's infancy and it really is incredible the amount of facilities they've put in it. Easily the best training and coaching facility in World football. It's also to be an International hub for ABUG's football ventures with NYC, Melbourne, Al Jazira and Yokohama F Marinos all being able to use it as they are a direct part of the City Football Group. The CFG affiliated Clubs like Espanyol, Sporting, AGF and the Ghanian FA will also be able to use the complex.
Glasgowmancity
Impressive, but also pretty obscene. How is it in anyway obscene? It's a club training facility that leaves behind almost every other club in England. It will benefit Man City's imports - it won't benefit the English league nor dare I say will it benefit the English national team. A Man City youth player has as much chance of playing for the first team as I do. Would old woman hair Hart be the only player homegrown player in the team? But will they be local or will they be brought in from all over Europe, and poached from other team's youth set-ups? The target is that 75% of academy players across the age groups come from Greater Manchester. Sorry, that is utter crap. If City weren't trying to invest in the future, why would they be bothering with a facility of this size & cost? £200M seems a hell of a lot to spend to get some tax breaks. Glasgowmancity
It helps them to beat the UEFA regulations on balancing the books if they can offset their losses perhaps ? It doesn't offset losses though, the development of this falls outside FFP regulations. Figures released last week show City brought down their losses last year by a large amount to £23M (£16M of which is the UEFA fine for failing FFP) so should easily meet FFP requirements this year. City are also operating with zero debt and are forecasting a profit for the next financial year. Only caught bits of it, but he was going into full rant about a comment that this would help the England national team (basically City producing a kid and then casting them off to another Premiership Club was helping the England team in their eyes as they produced this player). A lot of what he was saying was based on if's and but's based on what we know today..... but I suppose you never know, maybe both clubs do want to rely more of what they produce than spending fortunes on players (actually hope Scotland will get some benefit with this also, with a few Scottish kids getting a chance). He was going on about Chelsea and Man City have produced nobody of note through their academy in best part of a decade, and that in the late 90's and early 00's City did have a good Academy Set Up that was put on the total back burner, only for it to be brought back to the front again in recent years. sbcmfc
Can't we just be jealous? I don't have any axe to grind with man city, I liked then when it was cool to like them 'cos noel and Liam supported them and they were shit and skint! I would question if that 75% figure will be 100% until about 16 year old, then drop off quite drastically? (I don't get if you mean 75% at each group or 75% across, meaning average?) Obviously an element of that is simple geography though.

This is the same guy that said that the ref was right to book Aguero & not give a penalty because of the way his arms were when he went down against Southampton City's Academy graduates of the last 10 years that have been a success would include, Shaun Wright Phillips Bradley Wright Phillips Keiran Trippier - Burnley Ben Mee - Burnley Shay Logan - Aberdeen John Guidetti -On loan to Celtic Jason Denayer - On loan to Celtic Ryan McGivern - Was at Hibs Daniel Sturridge - Liverpool Kasper Schmeichel - Leicester Dedryk Boyata - City Joey Barton - QPR Nedum Onuoha - QPR And with Pozo & Angelino both being on the bench this year & Marcos Lopes out on loan at Lille just now I think that's not too bad tbh.
