  1. Shankland had a couple of chances against Northern Ireland. A shot from a corner and header in injury time. I'd stick with Shankland and hope that he does a Griffiths, who kept going close before hitting that we purple patch with us when he regularly scored.
  2. Very skeptical that the Doctor in that article has any connection to Everton or even met Patterson. Just a random Doctor that watched the game live from his house in California. Patterson is probably unlikely to make the Euros, but there's also a lot of stuff on the internet that's utter tosh masquerading as journalism, and that is one of them.
  3. Did Dyche definitely say this? The only source I can find for that is from some American Doctor with no formal connection to Everton: https://www.goodisonnews.com/2024/04/28/everton-defender-nathan-patterson-update-emerges-by-doctor-after-thigh-surgery/
  4. There are distinct problems with what Kate actually says, though. Compare and contrast with Ian Blackford, also a Wee Freer, but when given the opportunity voted at Westminster to legalise same-sex marriage and abortion in Northern Ireland. Even Humza said he “didn’t subscribe” to the view that gay marriage was a sin, as well as saying that same sex marriage is “no more inferior or worth less, than my marriage as a heterosexual person.” When asked if gay marriages or gay relationships is a sin, Forbes ducked the question and said “sin is universal”, as well as saying that if she had the opportunity at Holyrood, she’d vote against gay marriage because of her religion. She even got push back from the Church of Scotland who said that her views didn’t reflect mainstream Christian teaching! That’s totally fine if you’re happy to stay on the fringes of the party, but if Forbes is going to run for leader, she needs to find a better way of explaining how she is going to keep church and state separate.
  5. The song used a slang term for being gay in a negative sense. As in, Scotland fans thought (at the time) that the worst thing you could say about someone was to call them gay, even if they weren't. It's straight up homophobic. The only difference between now and then was that homophobia was acceptable in the 80s, as another song goes.
  6. I agree somewhat with this. It's only natural that in the build up to the tournament fans and journalists will catastrophise any Scotland player not being fully match fit. Hickey might even be back in time for the Gibraltar and Finland games and Tierney is significantly injury-prone, so just need to accept the fact that he might not make it, or if he does – he might not make all three group Games. Nice one! 😂 You caught five (including me) with this post. Welcome to the board GilmourFan!
  7. Next Manchester United match isn't until a week today, so doubtful there'll be any rush to make an announcement about McTominay, but initial reporting doesn't look good 😟
  8. Not strictly true, La Liga's President said he 'hopes' that some league fixtures will be played abroad. I expect MLS and UEFA to say 'naw'.
  9. Debatable, not definite. As well as the three defenders we lost in 78, losing Dalglish in 86 was arguably as bad. Yes, just the one player, yes, he was aging and yes he put in better performances for his club. But he was our stand-out player (something we don't currently have) and was irreplaceable.
  10. The full Thomas Frank quote is a lot more neutral than the actual headline: “He's progressing," Frank said. "As he's been out for so long I’m not counting on [him playing this season] but let’s see what happens in the next weeks - right now I’m not expecting it. "I guess it's not fantastic [for his Euros chances] but that’s not for me to judge.” Headline writers will look to include the most dramatic quote, but they could have as easily focused on the "he's progressing" instead of the "not fantastic". Also, as others have said, Brentford are 10 points ahead of third bottom with four games to play. They're unlikely to throw in a long-term injured player into one of those four games, unless they have an injury crisis. And the last of those four games is on 19 May, just under four weeks before our opening game against Germany and just over three weeks from now, and Scotland v Germany is understandably not Thomas Frank's main focus. So Hickey's got seven weeks to recover before the Euros, is making good progress, but is unlikely to play for his club team between now and the end of the season. Regardless of that not changing, the headline writers will be keen to rule Hickey in or out several times over between now and Steve Clarke announcing his squads for the Gibraltar and Finland friendlies and the tournament itself.
  11. Fair enough, I was misreading transfermarkt
  12. Ralston hasn't started any league games this season and hasn't played first team football since February. He might be ahead of Johnston in the pecking order, but on a very shoogly peg between now and the end of the season.
