Dillinger
Already seen The Revenant and The Big Short, and went to see The Hateful Eight at the cinema last night. All brilliant, Hateful Eight in particular. Di Caprio better finally bag his Oscar for his turn in The Revenant. Will be seeing Creed next. Fairbairn
Seen the Hateful Eight at the weekend and thought it was OK but nothing more. It's certainly about half an hour too long and the ending is pretty pish IMO. Some excellent performances notably from JJ Leigh, Sam L Jackson and Walter Goggins. Seen a trailer for Creed last night and looks quite good. Over the next few weeks I'll be going to see that, The Revenant, Hail Caesar and Spotlight which I'm really looking forward to. TH8 certainly seems to be dividing opinion. Personally just love Tarantino characters and dialogue so the thought of three hours of that already had me excited and it definitely lived up to expectations. TartanJon
Spotlight is good as is The Big Short.I loved The Hateful Eight and I've only saw half of The Revenant.
Parklife
The Revenant was rank rotten, IMO. From the ridiculously loud background noise, to the horrific accent of Tom hardy, the audio of the first half of the film was awful. Di Caprio is excellent. It's just a shame he's acting out a terribly written story. Spotlight was excellent, really enjoyed it. Steve Jobs was pretty decent too. Strange way of telling the story but it definitely worked. Angus_Young
Have watched The Hateful 8, Joy, Creed and Legend is the last week. Enjoyed the 4 of them. H8 lacks a wee bit on the storyline this time imo but there area couple of outstanding performances particularly from Walter Goggins. Creed was quite typical of Rocky movies but was a lot better done then the last couple. If you liked 1-4 of the series (I can't count the others, sorry) then you will like this. Grantyboy1983
I have watched all 7 series of The Shield which Walter Goggins starred in, I'm sure he has won an Oscar for a short film he directed or something along those lines, great actor. He was in a short film that won an Oscar but he didn't direct it .The US Attorney guy with the long hair and deep voice from Sons of Anarchy did. thplinth
Am I the only one on here who thinks Tarantino makes really awful movies? Couple of minor exceptions but pretty much uniformly.

Rocky Balboa was the last Rocky movie (the sixth one) and it was fantastic. Creed is a follow on from that, similarly shot, similarly gritty and is also great. It is nothing like Rocky 3 or Rocky 4 which are more like cartoons and very much a sign of their times - overblown and glitzy. Creed (and Balboa) on a par with Rocky and to an extent Rocky 2. What are the minor exceptions for you? I think he's probably the greatest film maker alive. Haven't seen Death Proof but all his other stuff is absolutely fantastic. thplinth
What are the minor exceptions for you? That vampire one (he directorialy took a back seat in) was goodish. He has done some good scripts.
TartanJon
That vampire one (he directorialy took a back seat in) was goodish. He has done some good scripts. He wrote it. True Romance,Reservoir Dogs,Pulp Fiction & Jackie Brown,Django Unchained are great movies,I'm not that found of the Kill Bill movies. I thought Hateful Eight was a mixture of all his movies, brilliant script, hammy acting, over the top blood & gore and ............ at the end

Don't agree regards Rocky Balboa m8, just could muster any real enjoyment from it, but agree Creed was very good. Hard to put it in the same bracket as Rocky, or even Rocky II mind you as they are two of my all time favourites.

Reservoir dogs was average. Really liked inglorious b#stards but pulp fiction is worthy of its cult status.
Dillinger
So far I've now seen 5 and would rate them Hateful Eight, Revenant, Creed, Big Short, Spotlight. Enjoyed them all thoroughly.

thplinth
From dusk till dawn with George Clooney? Aye that is the one. I quite liked Reservoir Dogs when it first came out although I have a credibility issue with Tim Roth as any kind of tough guy. Pulp Fiction was ok but already cracks were starting to show for me. (The trademark 'dialogue' was becoming really quite irritating at times). But then after that his movies really went downhill. To the point it made me reassess Reservoir Dogs. If I watched it now it would just annoy me. I want to like his movies I really do as most folk seem to enjoy them. I turned off Ingolrious Basturds at the scene where they started cutting swastikas into the foreheads of the POWs. The weird dialogue in the lead up to that I found really quite disgusting. After that I never even bothered with Django. Anyhoo I obviously am pretty much alone on this one.
Scunnered
Watched Revenant last night and thought it was excellent! Some of the shots were just breathtaking. As for Leo and the Oscar? We know how that's going to go: http://img.ifcdn.com/images/b6950f00aba317f86c50366d4667d99fe53b7798df76f47e91a4296186725581_1.jpg
