Charlie Endell
My old dear retires next week, so going to get her a dog for company and to keep her occupied. Anyone know any reputable Westie breeders in Glasgow / Lanarkshire / Renfrewshire (even slightly further afield)? I'm a bit wary as want to avoid 'puppy farm' type places. I'm not even 100% on buying a pedigree when the Dogs Trust and SSPCA homes aren't exactly empty, but she wants a dog from pup stage.

Seriously, do people pay so much consideration over their child's lineage? I'd guess most probably not. I'm speaking as a rescue pup myself. Charlie Endell
Agree with both of you on a rescue dog - I've been donating monthly by DD to the Dogs Trust since 2000 - will see what I can do but it's ultimately the old dear's decision. jenblueeyes
Dogs Trust quite often have pups to re-home too as strays get brought in and give birth. Worth giving them a call anyway if she's set on getting a puppy. There used to be a good westie breeder in Airdrie that my aunt got her last dog from (we had to go and pick it up as she lived in Edinburgh) but it was probably about 15 years ago so have no idea what they were called. I could go on about this all day, It's a bit like anything you purchase. It looks good, feels great, but you go to a party and some other bitch has the same outfit. Be unique. Invest in a rescue pup and your mum will feel very special.

Mindimoo
Oh my good lord. I know more people who check the authenticity of their new watch; puppy; handbag; kitten etc than they do when they shag about and randomly create babies! Seriously folks? Ally Bongo
We used to have a wee Westie called Kirsty Took it in from a family that could no longer look after her so she was a rescue - but she did have real fancypants lineage from a crufts winner's bloodline i believe Hated the hoover, played dead and if you went down on all fours and shouted "walkies" she would jump on your back and lie down I miss wee kirsty
hunchy
Only ever had 1 pedigree and that was when I was a baby/ toddler. Only just remember it but it was a wee papillon after that it was rescue pups/mongrels. Would defiantly go down the rescue dog route plus If I remember right pedigree dogs on average don't live as long as mongrels

I had a Labrador cross (she'd been rescued from being chucked in the Clyde as a pup) and apart from a skin complaint she rarely troubled the vet in her fourteen years. ThistleWhistle
We got a greyhound this year and she's amazing. Two twenty minute walks are enough, super loyal and sleep loads. Bit thick though as still goes batshit when next door's cat sits at the patio door for a laugh.
