Rangers Vs Celtic League Cup Semi-Final

Recommended Posts

OK might as well start a wee thread for this game as I'm sure there will be plenty of talking points, be it good or bad.

Obviously we have no right to win this game as Celtic are far better than us just now, so all the pressure is on them to beat the weaker lower league team.

In saying that I think because of the game it is, it will run closer than many think and we may just get a result from this game. Come Sunday at 2.30pm that will probably not be the case but we can dream eh?

I'd take a 2-0 defeat right now. That being said, I don't think I've ever seen Rangers priced at 8/1 so I'll be having a couple of quid on it but it's more out of blind faith than anything else!

Aye was going to include Rangers in a £1 longish shot acca for a laugh.

Ideally I'd like to see a 6-0 win or a controversial last minute 1-0 Rangers win.

Purely for seethe value.

I said that the other day too. Us Killie fans think alike!

As much as I would enjoy Rangers getting a humping, a win for them would have a major lol factor...

As we were talking about in the other thread, it's hard to make any case for Rangers.

They'll be forced to camp so deep & will just keep launching the ball when they get it. There'll be nothing to hit up top (whoever they play) and nothing supporting from midfield, so it'll just keep coming back. They don't have a keeper or defenders to take a battering in the hope of sneaking something from a corner or free kick.

I'm pretty sure the standard of game will be eye watering. Hampden is a terrible pitch at the best of times, but it's going to be in some state after the game on Sat & given the weather. I also expect plenty of "robust" challenges from the Rangers players, so it's unlikely you'll see more than 3 or 4 passes.

Hopefully it all passes off quietly, but I can't see it.

I'm going for a 2-1 Rangers win.

I have a feeling we can somehow sneak this one.

I can't see it myself.

Like Kenneth said, Rangers don't have the quality in defence to soak up pressure from celtic, or have the players or pace to hurt them on the counter attack. It's not like the Walter Smith era (1st time) where you have a Goram (Simonsen  ) or guys like Gough (Moshni  ) at the back, and you certainly don't have an out ball to Laudrup (law) or Gascoigne (black  ).

Celtic's recent inability to convert chances is the one saving grace for Rangers. Although having seen Celtic a few times, if they were to convert more chances, someone will be on the end of a 6 or 7-0.

i would be very surprised if Black (guaranteed to get a red) or Moshni (bombscare at the back) get a game.

Having watched Hearts against both this season Iogic would point to a Celtic win by 5 or 6. Rarely works like that though, and I guess Rangers will hope that a combination of getting stuck into Celtic and Rangers' usual hoofball will drag an already ordinary Celtic down to their level. 3-1 Celtic is my prediction. Real winners this week are the media.
