Was at Elgin v Raith yesterday and the steak pies were so good I had two. Not sure who the supplier is but I think it's a local butcher.

I was at a 60th in the Eight Acres Hotel and a local butcher was at my table. He claimed to supply the fitba pies.

Canna mind his name, but he was a cracking lad if that's any help

You replying to this has jogged my memory actually - I think the supplier might be MacDonalds, the butcher on Lossie Wynd. Edited by redstevie007

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/472632/Hairy-Bikers--steak-and-ale-pie

Made this a couple of times over the last few weeks. Proper magic!

It always tastes better home cooked but strangely is never very economical with the core ingredients costing more than one you get out the butchers. I love cooking though so it's worth the extra expense for the experience and the added flavour.

Anyways the recipe is a piece of pish to follow. I'd recommend giving it a bash.

I tried making scotch pies this week. They were rotten, pretty much lamb burgers in a pie case. I didnt add any noses or anything so the meat content was too high.

Gutted

Can you not just wing it and call it Lamb Wellington?

Just finished off a Pollock Williamson order thanks to this thread.

The Scotch pies were amazing. Proper Scotch pies, no gristle, slightly peppery, really enjoyed them. Living in England so long, you can only really get Bells Scotch pies from Morrisons, and they're really not that great, so it made a smashing change to get the real deal.

We also had a family sized steak pie, which was just beautiful as well. Lovely crispy fluffy lid, soggy underneath, and steak that melted in your mouth.

Thanks to whoever it was who recommended them, will be placing another order soon.
