Personally speaking I would rather something on the south side of the City as it's handy to walk around and safer(in my opinion) to walk around at night time and the game is on southside also but the Gresham isn't far from the hotspots, steer clear of temple bar when you are here they will absolutely rob you blind for a pint, some places charge close to €7, pure madness

No comparison between North Star and Gresham. Gresham is miles ahead. If they are the same price then no contest.

The only advantage of the North Star is that it is close to the commuter train to the stadium. However you can easily walk anyway. If staying in the North Star do not go further than the station. There are some areas nearby best not visited at any time. Hotel itself is probably ok.

This one is smashing value and not far from the aviva and less than 10mins into the City centre by taxi, Gary will probably back me up as well, this is the one I would most definitely go for when bearing the match in mind.

Stags head pub in the temple bar area is it still open had a few good sessions there last time in dublin

Indeed it is mate, loads of nice pubs in the city centre, I just don't recommend drinking the North side of the Liffey that's all really. Up around Camden st, Stephens green area is all good, temple bar is just a place to get ripped off and a hotspot to get robbed.

You should get the Guinness factory tour in while you're in town, staying in the Gresham you could hop on a luas and head up, would only take you 10mins and its a great trip, nice view of the city up there and you get to pull your own pint of the black stuff, if that's your thing of course!

Cheers for that info we staying at trinity college any good pubs you recommend in that area

Doyles facing Trinity college, good spot, there is a pub called the porter house if you want to have a pint different from the regulars on draft everywhere, loads of good spots near trinity, you definitely won't be short for somewhere to go! Famous night club in dublin is copper face jacks, about 15min walk from trinity area, great spot if you're out to get your hole! Stays open till 4am as well I think, as I said loads around, you definitely won't be short for somewhere to have a supp!
