Darren Fletcher

Must admit, in the West Stand last night when it was announced - 'Vauxhall's man of the match - Darren Fletcher!' - I let off a bit of a giggle and shouting on what planet. Although, it must've been hard to pick a stand out player.

Is the NI boss good mates with Strachan? It's almost like he agreed his team would be Gibraltar for 90 minutes so we could get some practise in for Sunday. With D.Fletcher and McArthur in the middle of the park, it was tough to watch as we failed to break NI down all night.

For me, Darren Fletcher offers us nothing in the middle of the park. He's loyal, a great role model for the youth of today, but that ultimately doesn't make him the kind of footballer we need in the middle. Barry 'back pass' Ferguson is who he reminds me of.

Last night we missed 2 full backs capable of getting down the wing and getting the ball into the box - hopefully Hutton/Robertson can do that on Sunday. Badly missed Brown in the middle of the park. Until we get a creative midfielder these games are always going to frustrate us, still too early for Ryan Gauld or the likes of Jack Harper, but what about GMS?

I know it was just a friendly but those of us who actually did show up and paid our money to freeze our baws off and watch that p!sh deserve a wee moan.

Have another look at our formation and then tell us what you think Fletcher should have been doing last night.....

I am all for using friendlies to try new things, blood new players, see how they get on. Thats what it was for me. I don't think last nights game will have much, if any, relevance on Sunday, regardless of who that match would have been against. We almost had a stronger team on the bench. Taking a lot into consideration, I thought they did ok last night.

Fletcher's role isn't to be the creative man in midfield. He and McArthur hold to allow the 3 in front and the full backs to attack.

Don't get me wrong it wasn't easy to watch at times. Him and McArthur are too similar.

Morrison and Brown are more dynamic but it's wrong to say that Fletcher offers nothing anymore.

I wouldn't play him on Sunday but he'll be needed against the other teams

I agree fletcher is neat and tidy but offers nothing in terms of penetration and drive.I don't know why folk continually rave on about him.

Did actually think he was our best player if Im being honest. Composed, kept the ball ticking over, did all the things he's supposed to be doing. That there wasn't a more attacking selection or midfielder alongside him isn't his fault. I said before the game that I expect he'll be picked to get him back in the team and playing, but that these two games were where we didn't need a defensive midfield. Brown alongside him is what our team will be but last night I'd have selected Morrison instead of McArthur, or any one of a couple of more attacking/creative players.

Don't think you can criticise Fletcher for doing exactly what he's there do.

Fletchers job is to win the ball, retain the ball, control the tempo of the game and ensure we're not caught on the break. He's not there to offer penetration.

I wouldn't even bring fletcher on. We don't need holding midfielders in these games. Last night would have been ideal for Armstrong or dare I say it Bannan

It would've been the perfect, risk-free game to give Ryan Jack a game.

When I heard they announced Fletcher as MoTM last night, first thought was "that is a bit of a cop out!"..... nobody really stood out (first half I would have said Anya, but second half he was just running around with no real purpose)

Thought Fletcher did his usual job of keeping things tidy in midfield, but was one or two times he gave the ball away far to cheaply I felt.

Midfield really lacked any drive last night, and think Brown and Morrison would have added this.

I think when we've the chance to break then retaining the ball and playing it square is absolutely infuriating.

Again, this was a game where the opposition sat back for 90 minutes.

We didn't need an anchor in the middle of the park - we needed a bit of creativity instead to liven the place up a bit.

Don't think Fletcher will start, expect Brown and Morrison

Yeah could be spot on with that one thinking about it.

I know it wouldnt happen but anyone think a 3.5.2 would work a bit bitter on Sunday? Just a thought.
