Watched a few films recently.

Dope - Comedy/Drama about a nerdy teenager in LA who is obsessed with 90s rap abd culture and gets caught up in a drug deal. Really enjoyed it and some excellent performance in the young cast. Really sharp and witty script 8/10

Inside Out - Pixar animation about the emotions inside a 12 year old girls head. Pixar movies are by and large all excellent but I'd say this was there most "adult" one to day and I loved it. Very, very clever portrayal of what goes on inside the human brain and plenty going on to entertain adults and kids alike. 9/10

Everest - Watched it on IMAX 3D and it was visually stunning. The storyline not so much although there is only so much you can do with the source material. 6 for the story and 8 for the visuals so 7/10.

The Martian - Hadn't read the book but had heard everyone and their dug rave about it. The film is excellent and shows what Ridley Scott can do after the clanger that was Prometheus. When I heard about the Disco soundtrack I thought it was going to be really annoying and out of place but they work it in really well. Matt Damon, considering 90% of his screen time is spent on camera alone (or with a potato) puts in a(nother) tremendous performance. Slightly overlong and my main criticism would be that Sean Bean is miscast but other than that really enjoyable. 9/10

Agreed with the Martian, way better than I expected.

Marshland - Spanish cop film set in the 80's when 2 sisters are murdered. Similar vibe with true detective season 1. It's not perfect but solid 7/10. Worth seeking out.

Manufacturing Consent - documentary put together of Noam Chomsky speeches and interviews. Essential viewing if you're into the role the media has on the world.

Legend - Hardy was great but didn't enjoy it much apart from his performance. Weak.

I had high hopes for the Martian but just could not get past the endless NASA/JPL propaganda. Should have known better given that they were consulted heavily. Painting it as whiter than white and portraying it as an open, public spirited organisation when history shows it has been anything but - see Operation Paperclip. Got on my tits.

I'm booked at the Imax(GSC) for Spectre.I canny bloody wait.

Just watched Jonathan Ross's interview with the cast of Spectre and it's looks pretty good.

Highlight was the new Bond car, the DB10. My God it is a thing of sheer beauty. I think I need to see the film just for the car.

Amy

Predictably sad. Think it's the same people or person who made the senna doc. A lot of video and audio footage from when she was young up until she died. Feel a bit guilty about how I thought of her when she was clearly struggling with mental health issues and addiction in the public eye.

I thought Rob Brydon was playing the villain in Spectre until I realised it's Christopher Waltz  .

Its not Christopher either

It's Christoph ..................

Thinking of watching the 6 Star Wars films before going to see the new. Do you recommend I watch them as released or start with episode 1 and work from there?

I'd say so. If you watch them in the chronological order of the events then you lose the big reveal in Ep V which although you'll already know it is still the correct dramatic structure to view them in. There is also a chain of thought that you can watch them in the order IV, V, I, II, III, VI with the prequel trilogy being viewed as a flashback in between Empire and Jedi so it goes, Build Up, Reveal, Origin story x 3, Redemption.

*I just realised I didn't actually answer your question correctly. I think the correct order to watch them in is the order they were released in.

I know it wasn't made in 2015, but just finished watching The Greatest Game Ever Played (for the second time), about the 1913 US Open. If you haven't seen it it's well worth a watch and, imo, one of the best sports movies out there. Don't let the fact that Shia LeBoeuf is in it put you off.

The very fact that Shia Leboeuf is on has stopped me watching it. It's forever popping up on my movie channels.

Completely understandable! But stick with it.

I have a friend who absolutely will not watch Adam Sandler films, and I keep trying to explain how much joy she'll get from Happy Gilmore.
