jailender
John Wilson SNP MSP has quit the party reducing their majority to 1. Seems he had issues with the leadership about NATO, and was persuaded to stay during the referendum. Armchair Bob
He's a socialist, isn't he, or am I thinking of Bill Kidd? Anyway, as long as he sticks around long enough to vote for Viscount Astor to not be allowed to own any land in Scotland.
Guest flumax
I'm sure he will side with the SNP on votes, just he's out the party

Seems he had issues with the leadership about NATO, and was persuaded to stay during the referendum. John Wilson may of had a point with the likes of NATO a year ago...but ever since the Ukraine Crisis, it's preety clear that NATO is still needed regardless or not. I thought it was just a sort of Cold-war thing that was outdated but now...it's actually properly wanted in cases if Russia keeps doing what it is doing. Colkitto
Has to be the most pointless resignations in the history of resignations. Scotland won't be joining NATO in the next 18 months. Why not just finish the term and then resign? Or wait till we actually get independence?
neilly71
At a time when folk are joining the SNP to get behind the majority pro Indy party its nit ideal, however he's probably to be congratulated for holding on so long in the first place. NATO is a big deal to folk.
Colkitto
I can understand NATO being a big deal to many in the SNP, but I can't understand their timing. Scotland isn't joining NATO any time in the next 18 months. That's now 3 MSP's who have resigned from the party when they could quite easily just not stood again when this parly term had ended

Clyde1998
Isn't this the majority gone? The SNP are on 64 seats now, and you need 65 for a majority...
iainmac1
64 for a majority. 128 members - the speaker. so 127 voting members
iainmac1
I'm wrong. 129 members minus the presiding officer is 128 but Margo's seat is empty so 127 voting members giving them a 1 seat majority at the moment. With Margo still there it would be 64-64 Edited September 23, 2014 by iainmac1

kumnio
Isn't this the majority gone? The SNP are on 64 seats now, and you need 65 for a majority... 129 seats. 1 for presiding officer. 64 would tie it all level, but Margo McDonald died, as she was an independent regional MSP, she hasnt been replaced, so theres only 127 active MSPs
iainmac1
We don't need a majority of SNP though. There is 2 Greens, now 3 independents supporting independence (was 4). We only need a majority of Yes supporting parties. We can probably count on a couple more Greens next time and possible a Socialist or Tommy Sheridan being elected. kumnio
Still 4 independents, thats 4 that have left the SNP due to NATO.

kumnio
3 left in a strop when it was announced last year, and then this guy. I think
kumnio
3 left in a strop when it was announced last year, and then this guy. I think Im wrong. 3 total have left over NATO. Bill Walker left as he was a wifebeating tosser.
Armchair Bob
Bill Walker left as he was a wifebeating tosser. He was then pushed out and replaced by a Labour member.
Orraloon
Bill Walker left as he was a wifebeating tosser. If I'm allowed to be a wee bit pedantic, That wasn't the reason he left, or he would have left 20 years earlier than he did.
