Fred_Zeppelin
I've said this before on here, there are not many "legends", especially where Scottish football is concerned. But he was a proper legend, from his sports jacket to his "stramash", a genuine loss for Scottish football. If there was a god I'd ask him to bless ye, Arthur! Squirrelhumper
Sad news. Met him on train years ago. We were on way back from Pittodrie and he'd been at Peterhead with Morton. Lovely guy.
Charlie Endell
Sad news indeed. Great guy and another part of my childhood gone . Sunday afternoons at my gran's in the '70s watching Scotsport while drinking Barr's American Cream Soda. adamntg
Back in the late 70s the commentators used to sit on a wee platform at the front of what is now the Jerry Kerr stand at Tannadice. I used to sit in the front row with my Dad and I have an abiding memory of going to ask Arthur for his autograph and him giving me a bovril and a penguin biscuit. Much preferred him to Archie McTumshie ever since, even before Weetabix-heid soured his legacy over the last six months.
OLAS
'mind listening to him having a wee shot of Morton's live commentary when The Jags were away to them. He's a bit before my time, but a legend all the same. There is a special place reserved for Arthur in the hearts of Thistle fans as his commentary of the 1971 League Cup Final is almost as legendary as Thistle’s 4-1 win over Celtic. It is almost impossible not to think of that game and not hear Arthur say “Bone walks the ball into the net, it’s four nothing”, “It’s Thistle’s Cup”, or “What a Sensation”. The latter later becoming the title of a Thistle fanzine.
