HaggisNeepsNTatties
3 people shot there tonight. Just another quiet Saturday night in Dublin.!!
jock strap
I wasn't overly keen on the place the last few times we were there. Rammed and boiling hot. Don't get me wrong, the people and staff were great, but we had a ball in other places.
gspain
The shooting came as big shock here. The area is normally very safe. Dublin certainly has dangerous parts and there is ongoing gang warfare (mainly over drugs) between former paramilitaries and so called "ordinary decent criminals" although there is nothing ordinary or decent about them. This is normally confined to certain areas. They normally only shoot each other as well although the victims this time were innocent it seems and a case of mistaken identitty. The area south of the river is normally fine - Temple Bar is safe although full of tourists, Harcourt street, mount st baggot st Grafton street and anywhere around the stadium should be fine. I would avoid Pearse street certainly anywhere past Trinity College. There are plenty of nice areas north of the river as well just keep an eye on your surroundings and trust your instincts. I work on the northside. You'd want to be very unlucky to be caught up in anything and being Scottish isn't a problem. I'd consider Dublin to be much safer than Glasgow. deecie
That's not saying much, I consider Baghdad safer than Glasgow. Oil Can Harry's was a bit shitty, but an excellent time was had there at all the Carling Nations Cup Games, the lock-in after the Wales game in particular. Every pub between there and the ground also seemed pretty decent. One of them was handing out free Oysters with pints. I did enjoy Dublin. I may even go back. I'll certainly be buying a ticket anyway.

Briany
That's not saying much, I consider Baghdad safer than Glasgow. And here was us Irish fans hoping for a lovely time when over there. *Sigh* Better rent that armoured car.... But yeah that shooting came as a shock. Usually, if I hear of a pub shooting I expect it to have happened in a place like the Cappagh House, a known rough shop. Certainly no traveller would ever find themselves there (because it's outside the city proper for one thing), not unless they got severely lost and had no common sense. Briany
Is that one of your Rathkeel Travellers or a normal touristy type traveller? A touristy type is what I meant. As far as tinkers go, I don't know. There could be a few there maybe. It's not a pub I'd stop in to check up on the matter though.

deecie
Oil Can Harrys was magic when we were there for the three games in the Mickey Mouse Cup Ken. It's just not going to be the same this time with all the riff-raff that'll turn up for a Saturday night competitive game.

I thought it was a cracking boozer if not a bit small considering it's claim as a fitba' pub. Kind of reminded me of a cleaner Bush Bar on Dundee's Seagate! If a place has great clientele ( us ), then irrespective of wether it's a dump or just plain tank rotten, your gonna have a good time. I take it that you were there considering the clientele quote you made. I clearly missed you
