wanderer
Reports Shakhtar Donetsk are to invest into Dundee United with a feeder club arrangement to be set up. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dundee-united-approached-over-becoming-7076874
neil r
At no point in that article dies it say Utd are to become a feeder club. At no point does it say Donetsk are going to invest.
wanderer
Sorry, posted wrong link, this one seems to point at something bigger to get around UEFA rules http://futbolgrad.com/ukrainian-dreams-for-dundee-united/
fishcumnock
Is that not the same set up as Romanov and Lithuanian Kaunas ?

JasMc1973
They'll need investment to beat Rangers to the championship title next year
AberdeenAngus
2 ways of looking at this type of arrangement, 1. Gives a club access to players they otherwise wouldn't have and maybe gives them a chance to operate at a higher level 2. Loss of identity as a club and reduced chance of bringing through own players

SMcoolJ
I'm assume Utd won't be their only feeder club. Would be interested to know who the others are and what their experiences are so far.
DoonTheSlope
I can't see many youngsters from Dundee wanting to leave and go to Ukraine. It could be a win win for United. They get a monetry fee annually and chances are nobody would want to up sticks and move to Ukraine anyway

Shakhtar will send a lot of Ukrainian and South American kids to Dundee (Shakhtar basically buy up Brazilian kids on the cheap and then sell them on for a mega high fee)..... At best, Shakhtar might have first refusal if United produce another Armstrong, Guald or Robertson.Guys who broke the story are saying talks are at a very advanced stage. Only thing I can see being a stumbling block is the visa and work permits..... Ukraine are getting visa free entry to the EU from next year, but it's only Schengen, so UK is exempt. Shakhtar are owned by one of the richest men on the planet, and all their players live in Kyiv these days (well away from any trouble) and play all their games in Lviv (completly opposite side of the country) so suppose money will be a factor of any Scottish kids get asked to move to Ukraine. ErsatzThistle
These things are a complete waste of time. The only feeder club arrangement that ever produced a couple of half decent players was Man Utd's arrangement with Royal Antwerp, and that's pretty much wound down now. Celtic have had three official "partnerships" with foreign clubs in the last ten years and feck all happened. The clubs were K.V. Oostende, Ăšjpest and Santos Laguna.
