EddardStark
If you have got a spare 90 minutes there is an excellent documentary on BBCi about how the group formed and the events leading up to the death of Ian Curtis. Lots of candid contributions from band members etc.
Charlie Endell
It's on my TiVo back catalogue. I used to be an aficionado back in the day - it prompted me to stick Still on my phone - "You should hear our version of Louie, Louie." Larky Masher
Dont get me wrong - i love Joy Division but surely the whole story has already been told Seems a bit morbid Whilst there is some repetition this is a excellent documentary with footage I'd never seen before. UPROAR
thought it was great - reflected the movie which I also thought was great... my 17year old son is loving this stuff, he can't get enough of it.

Toepoke
A well made film but I found it quite an uncomfortable watch in the run up to Ian Curtis' suicide. And when Paul Morley appeared.

Thanks to groups like Editors and Interpol borrowing so heavily from them, Joy Division almost sound old hat. Almost, but not quite. It is testament to how ground-breaking they were that they still sound fresh, even 35 years later. Many have tried to ape them, but few have successfully managed to pull off a decent Joy Division cover, IMO. And that includes New Order. A well made film but I found it quite an uncomfortable watch in the run up to Ian Curtis' suicide. And when Paul Morley appeared. I found it slightly unsettling that many of the interviewees in the documentary, like Martin Hannett and Tony Wilson, are no longer with us. The recording of Curtis while under hypnosis was particularly creepy.
sonofoi
I found it more moving than morbid. The hypnosis bit was really eerie. And the deaths of those involved with the band. Rob Gretton as well as the ones mentioned above. But aye what a band!
ZoltanBuchan
Thanks Eddard, I wasn't aware of this, will definitely have a look soon
ZoltanBuchan
Control has one of my fabvourite scenes from any film, when they spot Tony Wilson in a pub.. " Oi, Wilson - you're a khunt" "Yes...I know...but why?..."
the_burger
Good documentary but really makes you wonder how nobody had a bit of foresight about Curtis and his issues. Couldn't have been more blatant from his lyrics, not to mention the fact he'd already attempted suicide not long before
Larky Masher
Good documentary but really makes you wonder how nobody had a bit of foresight about Curtis and his issues. Couldn't have been more blatant from his lyrics, not to mention the fact he'd already attempted suicide not long before I think because it was 1980 and men didn't talk about their feeling then though as you say Curtis did via his lyrics (though Hooky did say in the documentary he didn't pay any attention to them). Martin63
Still on i player http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0543ytw/joy-division It's really well made. Great to watch even if you're not a huge fan of the band. Some great footage of Manchester in the 1970s. Charlie Endell
I thought this was a new documentary, but I've seen this before (still worth another watch though).
Marky
Joy Division were the cause of me getting a clip round the lug off my mother. White bedroom wall. Masked out (with utter precision) "JOY DIVISION 1977-1980 RIP". With a tin of black gloss paint I completed the masterpiece and carefully removed the tape. As I successfully removed the final piece of tape, I booted over the tin of paint. All over the beige carpet. Didnae go doon well I can tell ye. As for the documentary, I really enjoyed it. Although I must say I thought Peter Hook came across as a bit of a tool. Also agree Closer was good.
