Squirrelhumper
I don't read this rag but one of my mates just sent me this from teh Daily Mail today. Their sports jounos were naming their signing of 2014. One of them wrote this: MARK ALFORD - ANDREW ROBERTSON (Hull City, £2.5m) The best player bought by any Premier League club in 2014 is Fabregas - he is the ultimate modern midfielder, who is genuinely world class in every facet of the game (apart from heading). But the best-value recruitment is 20-year-old Robertson; a snip at £2.5m from the talent factory at Dundee United. He’ll go on to become the best left back in the league and sign for United, City, Chelsea - or even Real Madrid. He’s already scored against England at Celtic Park and torn Arsenal to shreds at the Emirates this season. The Scottish Bale, anyone? scoobydoo
About a year ago, on the old board, i made a thread about who was your club's player of the year. it was a time when United had a few decent players in various states of form. I named Robertson as the stand out and said he was destined for the top. I would have preferred him to have remained at Tannadump for another season and thought Hull was a shit move but knew he wouldn't be there for long. The boy has it all and it's been an incredible rise for him. And to think Victim FC released him and Zombie FC never spotted him.
scoobydoo
Also, his club manager, Stever Bruce, has said that he has calls to keep people up to date if any bids come in. Dundee United are on 20% of future transfers I believe. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/top-clubs-already-sniffing-around-4675046

Green_Tide_Rising
Did bale not start as a left back? he sure did at Southampton Played left back for Spurs at the start and was defensively very poor - read somewhere that spurs tried to sell him back then to Birmingham city for 3 million (i think) due to him looking out of his depth defensively

I'm sure I heard that Spurs didn't win in any of Bale's first twenty or so games for them. Seem to recall Gordon Strachan tried to bring him to Celtic on loan at one point. Even if he came on as sub, SPurs would lose.
Deeklipse
Spurs signed another full back about the same time. He also struggled defensively but was good going forward. He was dropped and has played for a few other teams since. He did play for Real M in Spain for a while. Maybe Hutton should have been tried further forward?
