Disagree Rossy - maybe not in the early rounds but I would say that every team gets a boost in crowds for cup games. Especially when you get to the Semi / Final. The trick is to get them to come to run of the mill league games as well.

If there is something to play for the fans will come out (and if they think they have a chance)

The fans may turn up for the odd cup game, but winning trophies has done absolutely nothing for the average crowds of clubs like ICT, St Mirren, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, Dundee United, Livingston etc.

I think that proves that there has to be more to getting crowds back than simply the 'success' of a cup win.

I think you're comparing one off successes with genuine competition. Motherwell finished 2nd/3rd three years on the trot, but didn't increase attendances, in part because we were never challenging Celtic.

So you're correct, their is more to it, but if Aberdeen are still challenging in March, crowds will be up at pittodrie and Parkhead. If Aberdeen are 10 points behind, crowds will drop.

Once we are back in the top flight all will be well.

On a serious point I think revenues should be distributed more fairly. Not sure if dividing up gate receipts is the answer but it should be explored along with the TV revenue distribution. The play offs have been an excellent idea. Maybe look at introducing a play off for the European places. We should also look at going back restoring the pre Christmas date for the league cup final. Not sure how this could be worked in the current football calendar. Too many games played in dark winter nights. I really loved the old league cup format of the leagues.

Current structure isn't working, Less games, more attention. Two leagues of 8, playoffs for titles in each. Why not have a winter and a summer season? First lot of games up to christmas, then january off and summer league feb to may where you have scottish cup thrown in. Just rule out European football for a few years. Bar Celtic no one is gaining anything from it. Why waste time and effort.

Summer season may get more sky money as would give them content through june and July. Would people accept a 10 am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm Saturday line up if every game got on tv and the tv deal was much higher?

Have the stand opposite the tv camera full first before either end to at least give impression for people watching worldwide that people can be bothered going.

Better food, world has moved on from eating a microwaved scotch pie. Cinema comparison is a good one, bet there's many folk pay more on food than they do for their cinema ticket. Why shouldn't football offer similar when you are sat in an uncomfortable seat facing the elements?

Age cap, 5 homegrown players from your club in each team. Keeps wages low and builds development. get the newspaper doing more pieces introducing players, give the fans a hook to know who they are. Reading rangers news back in the day when not as much football was on tv gave me more reasons to know who youth players where, and why Neil murray wasn't that bad a pick in a champions league game.

More 4g pitches. From pictures in the paper most of the parks look ragged. Players might not like it as much as grass, but would give more consistency.

My most serious one is this. If the schools or council build over a football pitch, then dont charge kids 40 quid to play on it. How this gets by all the attention on childhood obesity etc is beyond me. I couldn't imagine how much it who'd cost me now to play as much football as I did from 10-16 playing in the park, as that parks now a school with a gated off pitch. And I still ended up pish with all that practice

A season played Mid Feb/March to New year would be a winner.

We'd get massive excitement at the end of season and our big festive crowds attending really meaningful matches. We'd also get to play through the decent weather spells, while avoiding the worst of it in January and Feb. Our clubs would also be well prepared for European fixtures (not in the middle of pre-season.

I'd also consider some form of home-grown rule. i.e. a certain number of players within the match-day squad must have come through that clubs youth set-up.

A more equal share of revenues is also something that should be explored. Match-day revenues being split 70:30 (after policing costs, etc) seems sensible to me.

A saturday night, terrestrial highlights programme is also a must. I think it'd be worth the league giving this away for free (i.e. no rights cost) as it'd definitely generate more interest in the league. 10:25pm on a Sunday is no use. The excitement from the weekends games is over. (i'm also in my bed by this time on a sunday )

I think we got rid of the old boys at the SFA a while ago. The problem is we have a weak incompetent like Reagan replacing them.

Rossy the problem is we are replacing them with like minded people who are part of the system. The coaching remains stuck in the dark ages because coaches coach how they have been taught by the existing set up regardless of all the lip sevice about focusing on skills. Sbragia and jack harper comments for example. Thenhe gets the job full time FFS. Nothing changes fast because the people with influence like, and are happy with the status quo as its what they have known. Meanwhile the game slowly erodes.

Yeah, shown before EPL match of the day, or even as part of a Scottish show with an EPL highlights package at the end, as like it or not there is a market and would help stop people tuning to BBC England for MOTD instead of watching Scottish show as still getting EPL goals.

Highlights shows shouldn't be on after kids go to bed . Why not 9-11 on a Sunday morning?

Decent point.

If Motherwell were on on a Saturday night when I was young my dad taped it and I watched it in the morning.

Used to find it quite exciting when the TV vans were parked in front of the main stand as a kid.

Cut prices, should be no more than £10 to watch a scottish premiership game, for kids would make it £2 for them to get in every week up till there 16.

Bring back safe standing be good as well as being allowed a pint at the football like do at Rugby and down south at the fitba.

Lastly, i quite "heavy hands empty stands" Stewards and police are far to heavy handed and try to intimidate fans to much which is making people turn there back on going as cant even go have a wee sing song before you are told to sit down and shut up.

Also make it a 18 team league play each other twice as the split and playing a team 4 times a season is ridiculous, only league in europe does this, and its to make sure when old firm play each other they get 4 games with tv deal to sell the league. Theres better ways to sell our product than the old firm games and bending over backwards for the old firm constantly, fans are sick of it!

Also play football March till November when weather is bit better, i for one hate going in the pissing wind and rain and its freezing in the winter, it puts alot of folk of going to a game.

No, just no.

If you top your league you should lift the title not lift it after finishing 8 points off the pace.
