Goozay
I regularly get the train from London to Glasgow and would like to know whether the border between Scotland and England can be seen from the train. Obviously its just after Carlisle - but is there anything specific that marks it like a fence or a bridge or a particular building that's the first building in Scotland you come to? peever1745
I would say its the Solway Firth that marks the border.
Mitre
It's the bridge over the River Sark. This is the 2nd river bridge Northbound from Carlisle - the first is over the bigger River Esk (Metal Bridge).
scottincarlisle
Don't think you can see the "First house in Scotland" at Gretna from the train.

irnbruman
Every time I drive over the border into Scotland , I have to break into a wee rendition of Scotland the Brave. Been a tradition ever since my kids were small. Never done it on the train though. Edited July 3, 2015 by irnbruman
