One of the eye catching things about the campaign was the role of the media, which looked like old media controlled by a few against against New media in the hands of ordinary people. It seems that having pretty much every media outlet as a voice for No won the day, triumph of old media, papers and tv.

As we go forward and dust ourselves down I wonder whether there is a market for a daily paper more sympathetic to the idea of independence and the 45% of the people who voted Yes.

Simple answer would be no, newspapers are dieing on their arse!

I suppose it would need to be more broad based than just independence because you can't have everything filtered through that lens for years and years while it's politically on the back burner. Maybe the broader range of issues, that lay behind the Yes cause...

Would a daily paper work or what about a Sunday to start with.... but really our existing papers should be catering for this - this is potentially already half their readership.

A problem is, how to avoid it simply becoming a propaganda sheet? The clever thing the other papers do is to appear authoritative balanced, neutral, while forging its own agenda.

feck the Media - lets get coordinated to kill them off - never bought the Sun since 2007 & the hangman's noose (although bought once in error)

We need to get organised to stop buying all these scum suckers including not paying TV license

we all agree the media have been biased so why feed them

we need to make them us. at present they reflect the 55%.

the two go hand in hand

Yes, there is no reason the 45 can't be equally represented in the media in the future, just as the BBC is represented by a spectrum of opinions

For the moment, though, we find this attitude:

"No's efforts were helped when Alex Salmond blundered badly at the critical moment. Behind the wheel of a bandwagon he needed to persuade people to jump on board, to join his winning side, travel with him and make history. Instead he took his eyes off the road, picking an unnecessary fight with the BBC that produced only damaging images of a mass protest outside the corporation's Clydeside HQ."

So this is a journalist, basically supremely unconcerned about what seems like a genuine grievance about media honesty, not even concerned if it might be legitimate to question it.

Even if it was true that it was a distraction, what are people supposed to do? Is he implying Salmond ordered the protests?

And in whose eyes was a protest about a fair media, a damaging event? Only to the likes of the Daily Mail twho found it menacing, as it distorted the truth to suit itself.

So... we might expect BBC and BT to brush aside any claims of bias, but if a paper like the Herald is putting itself on the same side as the Daily Mail, not even interested if the people might have had a point, then it's clear there is no neutral higher authority to appeal to, and we can;t rely on anyone but ourselves...
