my son is only 2 so i have not reached this stage yet so hard to comment but for sure I will be resisting and holding out as long as I can before i bring a PS6 or Xbox25 into my household. Would much rather him out kicking a ball or in the boxing gym. I was never interested in computer games but I understand these days things are much more advanced with almost a social aspect to group play etc so the peer pressure to join in with it must be immense

Treat it like alcohol.

Educate him on its use.

I'm the same, my son is 9 months old. I've never been able to get interested in computer games as an adult and went off championship manager in,my early twenties. That's how I don't have anything newer than the N64 that I got when I was14.

I would probably rather my son never had a games console although that is easy to say at the moment.

I have a 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl. They run me ragged. I am always knackered. Although that might be my nightshift job......

If they push me to the absolute limit, my nuclear option involves putting my mobile to my ear and going "Hello, is that the Sky TV man ? Hi. Can you turn off the Disney movie channel please ?" Works every time.

Peer pressure will result in a console appearing at some point.

Limit the time on it per day from day 1. You can use extra time on it as a reward (rather than ban it as a punishment with resulting resentment to you).

I await that moment as another marker in time to there takeover. :-)) We must all remember the moment you beat your Dad at a game for the first time!

I mind that well when I was a nipper. I tanked that crabbit auld swine at Scalextric and he walloped me for being so cocky aboot it!

Well, 7 hours in and his attitude is already better (although my mum having a chat with him might have helped). He's now away out playing - that wouldn't have happened if he was on Xbox (although the sneaky wee sh!te is probably across the road playing with someone else's console).

Ipads/minecraft is the biggest gripe in my house. I have a 5 and 7 year old, and the 1st thing i get asked when they come out of school is "can i get my ipad". To which my answer is "at bedtime" (they get half an hour). Then i get the whole i don't like you stuff. For a while, it bothered me that they said that, now it just washes aff me. (Don't know if that's a good or a bad thing). At the end of the day, i am doing it in my opinion for their own good.

Reading with interest, my wee ones started taking an interest in the phones and tablets, can be handy for putting a cartoon or a game on when you're in a restaurant or whatever, but conscious that I'm seeing a lot of very young kids on tablets all the time and something I hope to avoid for him.

Can't say I agree. Ok, you might get your dinner in peace but my dinner was ruined the other night by the toddler on the next table playing Peter Pan on his tablet (that he knocked over, loudly, every minute or so) whilst mum and dad enjoyed their meal.

You're never too young to learn how to surf for porn

I was an obnoxious wee khunt as a teenager, but I don't think that had anything to do with my Mega Drive. I used to pack it away myself around exam time without any prompting from my parents.

I think my moodiness was just down to being an utter bawbag

Any idea when you think you'll grow out of it? :whistling:

Suppose it depends on the alternative? If it's flying cutlery, shouting to get down or running around the restaurant, I'd rather have the tablet on quietly...

In an ideal world he'll be in a good mood, the food will come at a suitable time and temperature and its not necessary, but sometimes it's an easy option.

Mine craft is actually great for educating kids in a lot of skills. Just a wee bit of advice though, you should turn off ipads, consoles, telly's etc about an hour before bedtime. the light from these devices has been found to affect sleep patterns for an hour after use.

For those with a PC get them into civilisation. It is a great game for teaching about history and social\political policy's. Only trouble is if they do get into it you will have to try and set time limits on them as it can be very very addictive

Or parents could just control their kids and have them behave.
