Larky Masher
Just read today that it looks like The Open in moving to Sky in 2016, it would be tragic if that happens as the BBC coverage is superb but R&A want the money.
Flora MaDonald
Sad, sad, news. The 0.0000001% of respect I had for the State Broadcaster, has now gone. The R & A can't see the big picture here. Membership of clubs is falling everywhere (indeed, some are closing). By selling to Sky, they are cutting their audience, which leads to more people not seeing the Open, which leads to more people not taking up the game, which leads to more clubs closing, which leads to Dawson and his chums having to pay for their own gin. jailender
You can't blame the state broadcaster, even though you love to. Sky offered the R&A big bucks and they bit their hand off. This will not be good for golf in the longer term.

Boynze
i thought the open was a listed event, i.e. had to be shown on free to view TV?
Flora MaDonald
But the memberships are falling whilst the BBC has The Open. That's my point - it'll get even worse.
Grim Jim
i thought the open was a listed event, i.e. had to be shown on free to view TV? At least we'll still have The Boat Race to watch.

Flora MaDonald
This tragically means I'll never appear on the State Broadcaster at an Open Championship.
Ally Bongo
What happened to the crown jewels of sport always having to be shown on terrestrial television ? Has that just been binned ? How much did BBC spend on formula 1 ? I see they have increased their coverage of shite snooker, indoor bowls & women's football lately Edit - from 2009 The Open was only category B http://www.theguardian.com/media/2009/jun/09/crown-jewels-sporting-events Edited February 3, 2015 by Ally Bongo
Flora MaDonald
Rugby phuqqing league, and a few nags running about were above The Open Championship? Good God. The State Broadcaster really is an utter, utter joke of an outfit.

Larky Masher
Sky's coverage of The Masters is fantastic. As was their coverage of the Ryder Cup and I'm sure the Open coverage will be great I just think it's a pity it's off free to air.
Charlie Endell
Rugby phuqqing league, and a few nags running about were above The Open Championship? Good God. The State Broadcaster really is an utter, utter joke of an outfit. The list was drawn up by the previous (Labour) government, not the BBC. I'm not one to defend the BBC but this is really out of their hands.
Flora MaDonald
Nae finer sound than the clink of Alliss's gin glass as the final players go up the last. Something Sky shall never replicate.
