Sitting here contemplating that was our best chance of qualification in years, win and draw in ireland left us in a no bad position, but yet again we are are the masters of our own downfall. Georgia defeat, poland last minute goal, irish ability to spawn a result, just feels like there is always going to be someone better/luckier than us. The world cup draw will have england top that group, but make no mistake, slovenia and slovakia will be no mugs especially away from home. Probably just on a downer after tonight, but it just feels like we are never going to do this again.

Well done to northern ireland btw.

I think 2020 is the earliest we could look at - if we get a decent draw, then maybe we can qualify. I don't know the last time we got a relatively easy group though. No offence to Northern Ireland, but I think we could've got out of that group.

The Ireland game in Dublin. We had the group together for a longer period than normal, WGS mention of having them doing double sessions was surprising, then to the game where we looked...knackered. I started to lose a bit of faith in him from that game, Georgia compounded it.

It just feels like there is always a georgia type game when things are going well. I agree, ireland were there for the taking as well, showed them too much respect if you will. As someone said in the sfa thread, its difficult to see where the players to replace this lot are coming from.

The tepid acceptance of a draw in Dublin against an Ireland team that was there for the taking showed us up for what we are.

Job done properly there would have seen way less pressure on the Georgia game which sealed it for me.

Will you stop banging on about the draw in Dublin as our downfall in very thread?

Taking 4 pts out of those 2 games and restricting the irish to only 1 is exactly what we hoped for at the start of the quals in every double header.

The sad thing is the Ireland games were the only ones we DID get the results!

Indeed it wasn't Dublin.

It was Tbilisi. It was tonight, it was Ireland taking 4 points off Germany and Poland 3. That's what killed us.

Head to head we are better than the Irish and Exactly the same against the Poles (4-4 on aggregate).

And where did i4 points against Ireland get us?

Have you not noticed that Ireland took 4 points more than we did against Germany?

Dublin and Tbilisi killed us, so get over it, because it's all there to see.

So you're saying that the 1 point Ireland got from us made them qualify? Bullshit.

It was OUR results against Germany, Georgia and Poland that cost us. NOT the game in Dublin.

I'll give you the bit the bit about our results they cost us for sure. Ultimately we are responsible for our own ineptitude.

But are you suggesting that a win in Dublin at that stage of the group would not have seen us in a commanding position to the detriment of Ireland?

Yeah, of course it would. But i dont think that's where we lost it.

Needed to defend that last minute goal, but it was never a free kick and what stoppages in that second half constituted 4 minutes of added on time?

We did well in this game and should have seen it through. What's killed us is our pathetic display against a shit team in Tblisi, and having a different attitude than our close competitors on a close defeat to Germany being something to be proud of.

Looked a daft challenge by Ritchie from where we were standing. Also the trainer was on for Poland and there was a pitch invader.

The way it's looking we could've won in Tbilisi and still gone out...

From the telly, the challenge was same as a lot of the refs whose whistle happy policy overtook the game.

It was shabby defending and Marshall was awful like he was for the 1st goal.

Should have killed the game off instead of sitting back.

Great comeback but lost the will from what I seen.

Correct. Said it at full time in Dublin that it was a poor result. At the start of the campaign a draw in Dublin would have been a great result because most of us were expecting Germany to walk over the group. Then Poland got a great start and Germany started slower than expected.

Whilst waiting in the car park that was the m74 and then m8 tonight on way home, me and my son started thinking about what players would come through for next campaign.

We struggled to think of anyone that would enhance that team. Made us even more depressed.

Failing to start Anya was a huge mistake, he turned the game when he came on

Yup big time, when we got back in it !Marshall was wasting time straight away. Pathetic we could have won that game.
