ProudScot
"I may add another one into that, a player that I have only seen from afar - I'm waiting on injury reports from Tuesday's games," the manager revealed. "A younger-type player, one I have never really engaged with before. The above suggests an eligible/foreign based player? anyone got any ideas? could be exciting/contraversial..... wanderer
My first thought was Tom Cariney, but I more inclined to think that it is Ryan Fraser he is talking about.... he has been injured lately and Bournemouth were playing last night. Also there is a real lack of wide players in the squad, so he does tick a lot of the boxes from hints Strachan dropped. If its a player through the granny-rule, then its completely out the blue....... but I am not expecting it to be one. Clearly a player Strachan knows of, but has never called up to date (so rules out Watt).

PASTA Mick
what age is harper now? 18 I think. Faddy and Fletcher were getting picked about the same age although they did have first team experience. It's a tricky one because I expect Harper would have first team football if he was at pretty much any club in Scotland but it is a huge step up from the level he is playing at to international football. Nothing wrong with calling him up to train with the side because he's very likely to be a key player for us in the next few years.
ProudScot
Was Jack Harper playing last night?I thought it might be an 'eligible' because calling them up for them to call off looks suspect hence why he was waiting till last nights games were by with
wanderer
Jack Harper is involved with the U19 squad in their Euro qualifiers next month. As said, its a tricky one, as he is not really that much younger/older than what Gauld is at the moment, but Gauld is playing "first team" football with Sportings B team in the Portugese 2nd division, and is in there Champions League squad..... Harper I do not think has even reached Madrid C team yet (though he is involved with their NextGen squad in the Champions League). If you are calling Harper up, you do it in the background unofficially just to invite him along to train with the squad in Glasgow before the Georgia game. Harper will probably get a call up, but not before he has established himself in one of Reals 2nd teams.

I don't mean waiting to see if he's eligible I mean waititng to see if he get's through last night's game unscathed before handing him a call up. This is getting announced today anyway isn't it? GMS should definitely be in this squad....

This is getting announced today anyway isn't it? Looking at the games last night - Aberdeen v St Mirren and the Championship, it really is slim pickings! You could probably make a list of 3 or 4 players from the 8/9 games there was last night. Would not shock me if it was all a ruse on Strachans part to say to players not called up that they are in his "plans" and nobody is called up. zahana-oni
Mystery player is allegedly Franco Niell. Bit of a journeyman player until last season and this season especially he has been on fire and banging the goals in including 4 against Boca I believe. Getting on a bit though

wanderer
Where did you here this? Regarding Mystery player? Strachan talks about it in his squad announcement yesterday. About 1:35 in after he talks about his time at Dundee as a kid.... almost comes across as a spur of the moment thing, that he was almost not going to bother, then suddenly decides to go with it. TA Torr
Sorry where did you here the Franco Niell thing. Can seem to quote for some reason.
ProudScot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Niell there's his wikipedia. he is indeed eligible, you can find him on the database of eligible Scottish players based abroad. nothing in his career history to show he merits a call up though and is already 31! dandydunn
Ok. Time to let it out,it was me he was talking about, but I said I wasn't going to go to ibrox and I'll be going to turkey 2 days after the Poland game,so would hinder my drinking warm up. He took the huff, said I've blew my chance, but had a glint in his eye. I would imagine I'll be playing right back against Ireland and England.
