Players With Most Promotions & Relegations In Scotland

Recommended Posts

Here's two questions I've been wondering the answer to:

Which player (past or present) holds the record for the most number of promotions in the top four divisions in Scotland ?

and

Which player (past or present) holds the record for the most number of relegations in the top four divisions in Scotland ?

Anyone know the answer to this ? Interested to know !

There was a period about 15 years ago where the Jags never seemed to stay in a division for more than a season going up and down between SPL and Div 2. Not sure how many players would have stayed through all the promotions and relegations.

Kenny Arthur was with Thistle throughout that period (97-07).

David Bingham is a guess or any of that Gretna squad. A few of those must have been up and down the leagues throughout their careers.

In consecutive seasons (or very close to consecutive seasons), David Graham won the Third Division with Gretna, Second Division with Gretna, First Division with Gretna, First Division with Accies and then the First Division with Dunfermline.

David Bingham's got 4 First divisions (Pars, Livi, ICT, Gretna) plus the Second and Third with Gretna.

David Graham's got 3 First divisions (Pars, Accies, Gretna), plus Second Division with Gretna and RU with Stranraer and a Third Division with Stranraer.

Looks like David Graham, but it would be a of a lot easier to work out if oor leagues didnae get rebranded every few years with ever-twattier nomenclature.

Kenny Arthur and James Grady seem good shouts.

I don't think Dougie Imrie is a contender, but it's that kind of guy I'm thinking.

Either that or a division 2/3 player that's bounced about, but never gone full time.

It won't be Imrie he signed for Clyde from Lanark United & played with Inverness & Accies. Not even sure if he has had any promotions or relegations?

Might have got relegated with Morton?

Aye, don't think he's close, but his sort of level that bounces between premiership and championship.

He wasn't in either of the Accies teams which got promoted from the First Division, we signed him afterwards on both occasions. He was in the Accies team which got relegated from the SPL, and also in Morton's team which got relegated from the Championship.

Not sure about his timing with Inverness though.

Bingham also won the First division with St Johnstone when he was a 19 year old kid.
