Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
Alright folks, looking to possibly return to Germany for obvious reasons (beer and football), this time for my stag do for a weekend in march/April next year. Returning to Dusseldorf is my preference but looks too awkward to get to from Scottish airports so other choice is Koln. Has anyone else been, is it a good city for night out? Or if you had any other German cities worth visiting (which have a football team!) which are easy to get to I'd be open to suggestions. Thanks. deecie
You can fly direct to Dusseldorf International from Glasgow and to Dusseldorf (Weeze) from Edinburgh...
johnnie x
Dusseldorf is only 20 odd minutes on the train.
Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
Cheers. Unfortunately the flight home from Koln to Edinburgh is at 11.15am on the Sunday which could be a painful. Might have to just grin and bear it with a hangover... macy37
I had my stag there in June of last year and it was superb. Go,honestly it's a fantastic place and Pascha is a bonus.....
min
Spent a day and night in Cologne en route to Dortmund last month and loved it. Loads of great beer halls serving Kolsch beer in traditional 0.2l glasses. Would go back in an instant.

macy37
Gala, the Kolsch is served in 200ml glasses and is divine. Cracking ale houses, just superb,I am heading back in February.
Grim Jim
Made the mistake (Not!) of heading to Cologne during the rail strike on the Saturday before the game. Meant spending an extra hour or two with locals on the train who enjoyed telling us all about real German life: Brilliant By the time we got to the city we were pretty thirsty and hungry as well so the Kolsch and (Dutch!) cheese rolls (forget what they were called ) went down a treat. Lots of old-style squares with tables, so would have been good to have done an overnighter.
Newryrep
Found the best beer hall to be the one down from the bar with the puppets (opposite the corkonian) turn left going out the door and its about 100 yrds on the other side of the street. Bit fancy but great beer
jimstroma
Great atmosphere at Cologne games as well. Their anthom is the Loch lomond tune
joe545
Stayed in Köln when over for the Dortmund game. Take my advice: do not stay near the cathedral! Those bells start early and go on for a long time. Every half hour for about 15 minutes on Sunday morning
jamkam
Gala, the Kolsch is served in 200ml glasses and is divine. Cracking ale houses, just superb,I am heading back in February. You can get KOLSCH in 300ml glasses and they called them the "large beers." A city worth visiting, try away from the main station area and you will get the where the locals drink. Good food area in the station. Enjoy.
Jagtag
We had a night in Cologne and 2 in Dusseldorf for the game a few weeks back and there was no contest. Dusseldorf is good but nothing compared to Cologne. Pascha on a stag do could get very messy.
macy37
Bump I am looking at heading here on the weekend of 6th to 8th March with mates for a fitbaw and beer weekend and see Koln play Eintracht that weekend but we would only be able to take the game in if the game was either a Friday night kick off or a Saturday game as the flight home is mid morning Sunday so my questions are - What is the likelihood of this game being scheduled for the Sunday? When would we know when the game is actually being played? If it is on the Sunday are there decent clubs fairly nearby that we could visit to take in a game of the Saturday that you men know off. I am hoping the recent Dortmund trip will help answer these questions.
Chesney Hawkes TA
You'd be best going on the Bundesliga website and seeing how many weeks in advance they have specific kick-off times for. Think it's generally about a month in advance but I could have just made that up. I can't be assed going on the website myself and bothering to look. I know numerous people who have missed games in Germany because the game they were going to watch ended up being a Sunday game.

In the BL you've got Schalke as an alternative or Fortuna Düsseldorf in the BL2. In the 3. Liga, Dortmund's 2nd team are at home, as are Preussen Münster. Cheers, that has made our minds up.If we cannot get to the Cologne game Fortuna will do great and they are flying fairly high too so the crowd could be decent if they continue.
