Hero John O'Shea

IT WILL no doubt be the biggest Green Army invasion since the Irish football team qualified for Poland 2012.

Following this week's dramatic one-all draw against world champions Germany - in their own back yard - fans of the Boys in Green will travel to Scotland next month in their droves.

The game has taken on a new significance, with the winner securing a big advantage in the race to qualify for Euro 2016 in France.

Thousands of Ireland fans will make the short trip across the water for the November 14 fixture.

But it is unlikely all will be able to secure tickets, with demand already heating up.

Abbey Travel, which organises away trips for Irish football games, told the Herald that the phone was "ringing all day" yesterday with inquiries about arrangements for the match.

The travel agent has a two-day package for the trip, including travel and accommodation, at a cost of 325 per person. It has provided a guarantee of match tickets at face value.

However, many fans may be left disappointed with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) receiving an allocation of around 3,000 tickets only.

A spokesperson for the association said that around 10,000 people had applied for the tickets.

"The ticket portal closed around six weeks ago, we had over 10,000 subscriptions," she explained.

"We have an allocation of 5pc of the stadium."

While the application process for the tickets has closed, they have not been issued yet.

The game has been scheduled to take place in Celtic's 60,832 capacity Celtic Park, with the Tartan Army's usual home, Hampden Park, tied up with the Commonwealth Games.

feel-good

Scottish football message boards have been a-buzz with discussion about how many Scots-Irish will turn out in the home section of the stadium to support Martin O'Neill's men.

With a feel-good factor now returning to Irish football, the FAI is also hopeful that fans will turn out for the upcoming friendly against the USA on November 18 - four days after the qualifier.

This was all on the back of the delight for the boys in green when John O'Shea marked his 100th cap with a cracking goal in the dying moments of Tuesday night's game.

A lot of Irish have bought tickets in the public sale for Lisbon Lions Lower and Lisbon Lions upper to be near their 'official' away support

We bought up there as well to be near the away fans. Say what you like about the Irish, they have a great away support and will add to a brilliant atmosphere. The plastics will be out of course but I don't think it will make a massive difference, in fact it should add to it. As long as everyone is just there to support their team and enjoy themselves I have no issue and will welcome them. I just hope no one in our support gives them a hard time. Would be very hypocritical IMO.

We are getting 5% about 3k officially but given the Irish diaspora all over the UK I reckon there'll be between 7k to 10k converging on Paradise especially after Tuesday's result it's a cup final.

FFS you must not have very high standards if you think that Shit-Tip is 'Paradise' :-)):-)):-))

Happy there won't be enough Irish there to make any difference to outcome of result. Confident we are better team and playing better football as well. I would expect there to be more English there on the Tuesday game than Irish.

I had initially thought this as well but I think due to the start from them I reckon they will there in force. England always have a big following in fairness.

Looking forward to it I must say

There's a fair bit of casual racism on this thread, people can support who they want whether they 1st, 2nd, 3rd or more generation.

Not racist at all, most my family are irish, but i couldnt give a flying feck about ireland would never support them as am Scottish and proud be scottish only, couldnt care if i had Irish roots, Ireland or same union England, welsh nothing do with me, i like Irish and English people nothing against them jsut dont want plastic irish or england fans mixing in our end, as cant stick them or there polictics as just cause old firm fans. Genuine Irish and England fans be more than welcome mix in as they arent there because old firm fans.

I think we all know the type of characters that have the potential to turn up to support Ireland for this one (i.e. some of the warmers that live in Glasgow).

These people thankfully do not represent the majority of "scots irish" and "irish scots" nor the people coming from across the water.

They are total bunnets and we all know it no matter how we dress it up. Heres hoping they dont bother and leave the rest of us to enjoy it. The irish fans are really great and very much like TA.

PS how long before we get a McGeady McCarthy thread? :-)

I hope that this is not a big issue either as the media and the more extreme OF firms would love us to become embroiled in a "sectarian" scandal as they would call it.

The game should be good. The fans for both teams should be good and i belive the result for us should be good.

Bring it on! If only all the campaigns could be as excitiing as this one.

What's a "Genuine Irish fan" and who gets to decide?

A genuine Irish fan is someone who actually supports the team due to their connection with Ireland.

I think when people say 'plastic' they mean bigoted Scottish Ireland fan that 'supports' them due to the old firm sectarian divide. Yes these people do exist.

As i said before the type that doesn't represent what Ireland is all about.
