Rugby League Magic Weekend

wee bonus for me with just having moved to Newcastle last year . Magic Weekend at St James's Park this weekend. Six super league games over 2 days - £40 quid for a weekend ticket. Great value. You can go in and out of the ground between matches - big fan zone including free Irn Bru lol.

Ive been to last two events both at Man City's ground. The noise and singing of rugby league fans much louder than football games. Great to see all the different fans mingling although they each have their own ends of the ground during matches. Mon the Wigan.

Went to the one at Murrayfield few years back. Good value, only did it to go on the beer for the day.

what a fanstastic day's rugby - 40,000 at St james Park - not a bad wee stadium. Sensational performance from Wigan to beat Leeds. Noticed the stewards let people take drink to their seats whereas when its football drinks must stay on the concourse behind stand.

I used to enjoy watching Rugby League when I was over in Australia. I've often tried to watch the English games, but just don't interest me. Nothing like the drama of yesterday in Belfast certainly. For me anyway.

I think theres a difference when you have a team that you can get behind or support . A represenrative or professional team like glasgow didnt exist when i was there and for me at that time it was lenzie who i played for and the national team. Ive been to see wuite a number of rugby league games and support wigan ..so for me wigan against leeds was a titanic match and hugely entertaining.

As I said I got into it a bit when I was in Sydney, where there is blanket coverage on TV. Thought I'd continue with it when I got back to the UK, but gradually realised that I was kidding myself, the English stuff was just dull the majority of the time. I have a feeling I fell for the hype in the media when over in Australia, just as many do (in my view) for that around the EPL here. In Scotland my main interest, national team aside, is in club rugby, although I have had a season ticket for Edinburgh for several years which is a chore more often than not. I go to Glasgow games due to a family connection, and I'd have to say the atmosphere that they have generated around their team in the past couple of months has been extraordinary. Any sport is more interesting when there is a personal connection, but the vast majority of neutrals would go for Union over League, rightly. Edited by Pool Q

I went to a big comprehensive school up on t'moors in the 70s where your average games teacher was, shall we say, likely to have influenced the writing of Kes.

A couple of lads in my year went up to the tank of a bloke who "taught" RL saying they wanted to have a go at union instead. Now I didn't know teachers were allowed to swear, shout homophobic abuse & batter kids all at the same time even back then but anyway once the bruising got better I don't think they ever asked again.

Went to Rabbitoes V Warriers today in Perth, my first ever League game and I loved it! Loved the quick passages of play and all the music throughout the game, great!

What a fantastic game today Warrington v Leigh on BBC. Some brilliant tries - don't know how to copy video - but Kevin Pennys try was sensational finishing. Rugby league have changed rules so that the corner flag is not in touch - seen some amazing finishes but the one by Penny today probs the best.

Went to watch Castleford v Widnes on Sunday. Never been to Castleford before - its a bit like the English equivalent of Auchinleck . Fantastic old ground - DJ pumping up the volume - ground is called the Jungle- wonky sloping pitch - very intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. Rugby Union is very sedate in comparison with this.
