  1. With that budget you need to compromise either the frame or the components. Carbon frame with not as good components, or aluminium with better components. I had the same issue a few years ago and ended up choosing the aluminium frame and full Ultegra group set. My feeling was that this was a better deal as having a slightly lighter frame was not as important to me as having the better components that make shifting etc much smoother. But it's really up to you. Any bike in this range of price will probably be decent, so I'd just advise taking them for a test ride to see what suits you best. I have the CCAD10 frame on one of my old bikes and I think it is a very good aluminium option.
  2. Cheers. Part of me wants to wait until the whole thing is published before continuing with it. Anfter a year has passed since reading a book I cannae remember a single thing about it!
  3. I've read the first 3 of those books. What are we up to now? Suppose I could check google, but easier just to ask you
  4. It's up there with pulling your socks over your knees, and not celebrating scoring against an ex-team. All worthy of lengthy bans.
  5. There are a few etiquette things to get used to - point out obstacles, don't overlap wheels, etc - but the main thing is just to ride predictably.
  6. If you've never ridden with a group before then you should definitely try it out. You will be amazed at how much easier it is compared to riding alone, and is also more enjoyable when you have people to chat with as you ride. It might take a wee bit of getting used to having other riders so close to you, but you'll get over that quickly.
  7. Nae accounting for taste. If you like bland watery beer then fill yer boots.
  8. The beer is so bad in Cologne that that in itself is enough to never make me want to go back.
  9. This idea in America of cities paying for sports stadiums is a joke.
  10. There are specifically designed models for this. Mostly aimed at the triathlon market. The Forerunner, I think, is the Garmin model to look at.
  11. Going to get a GPS unit for Christmas. I'm thinking about the Garmin 520. Anyone have any strong opinions on this, or would recommend something different?
  12. No idea how badly repeatedly heading the ball can be for you, as I haven't read any real scientific findings on it. But even if the effects are negligible, it still seems like a good idea for kids not to be heading the ball and instead concentrate on skills that will make them decent footballers. Every time Scotland fail yet again to qualify for a tournament everyone is up in arms about how we need to change the way we train kids. Too much emphasis on hoofball, no close control, etc, etc. And then when you hear a story like this, the reaction is to suck it up you pussy Americans, we trained on fields covered in glass when I were a lad, came home with at least two broken legs, never did me any harm, ...
  13. Was wondering how long this would take to descend into a boring diatribe against cyclists. Three pages is two more than I expected, to be fair.
  14. The best/worst thing about Strava is comparing your times to others. A lot of elite athletes, and some professionals, live near me. Seeing them climb hills that take me 40 minutes in 20 minutes is a real eye opener to how shite I am!
