Atp World Tour And The Race To London

A couple of massive weeks ahead for Murray in his quest to qualify for the Tour Finals. He's just started his first round match in the 250 event in Shenzhen - next week the 500 in Beijing, followed by the Masters in Shanghai.

So, 1750 ranking points up for grabs in this leg of the tour and with time running out needs some big results.

He's currently 11th in the race and there are six who he can realistically catch over the next month or so - as long as he can overtake any three from:

Dimitrov (+180pts)

Raonic (+285pts)

Berdych (+355pts)

Ferrer (+380pts)

Nishikori (+520pts)

Cilic (+780pts)

C'mon Andy!!!

Not much of a break, but Murray just starting his first round match in Beijing. Will be interesting to see what last week took out of him, although his draw isn't too bad in that he wont meet Djokovic until the semi - if all goes to plan!

Also good news that Ferrer lost his first round match in Japan as he's only 130 points ahead of Murray.

A good performance and a quarter final against Cilic to look forward to. Unfortunately, everyone else left in the race also won their second round matches so no further ground gained. However, should Murray beat Cilic he'll move ahead of Ferrer at the very least.

A predictable win for Djokovic - think that's now a 23-0 record for him in Beijing - but 180 ranking points for Murray, which should move him up to 9th in the race.

Next week Shanghai...

Yep, definitely need Berdych to lose.

Nishikori and Raonic are throught to the final in Tokyo, so they'll both move further ahead of Murray.

Looking at the draw for the masters this week - it really couldn't be tougher. Murray has to play the first round (only the top 8 players get a bye to the second) and if all goes to plan he's then scheduled to meet Ferrer in the last 16 and Djokovic in the quarters.

The other results are also going for Murray today - Wawrinka, Nshikori and Dimitrov are heading home along with Cilic.

just need Berdych and Raonic to slip up now...

Think that has blown his chance of making the finals. Slips back down to 10th in the race. He may opt to play a 500 event at Basel or Valencia before the Paris masters, but would need two huge results to make it.

Sadly, his current ranking doesn't lie.

Playing at Viena 250 this week. Ferrer too and other rivals for London in other 250s this week. Then maybe Valencia in 500 before Paris. Ferrer in great form after irregular season so doubt he`ll catch him. Didn`t see Ferrer defeat but Murray looked jaded in previous round despite win.

It wasn't good. The worrying aspect is he lost from a winning position on a hard court (for only the second time on the surface to Ferrer who is more renowned on clay). Worrying times for Andy and you do begin to wonder if he will ever return to former glories.
