tell you what.. I will miss him. Best orator I have heard . There is a superb article on salmonds political career on the bbc website.

As he proved again today, powerful far reaching inspirational words, dignified in defeat, but at the same time giving hope and heart for us not to give up and keep fighting the fight!

Was the banner not something like "no team GB"

All you need to do is put a comma after no and it's a perfect banner for 55% of the population of this new created region

I think we are kidding ourselves on

Most folk that voted No knew the new powers vow was horseshit

They just dont want Scotland to be Independent

Ally, you might be correct regarding the "most folk" part, but I can only assume that the pro-union campaign thought that the vote was going to be so close that they felt they had to rush in at the last minute and make additional promises to the Scots in order to absolutely guarantee a No vote. I say "had to" because if they didn't have to, surely it was an almighty blunder to make such rash promises?

Had they just left things alone and let Scotland vote No without offering any more powers, they possibly could then have just continued to ignore the 'English issue'. But they've put themselves over a barrel because they've now got to deliver on the promises made to Scotland (or the Scots will rightly be angry), and also got try and solve the West Lothian question and do something for the rUK (especially England). As we've seen already, there isn't agreement between the main parties on how this can be done, if it can be done at all. The fact that there hasn't been a solution to the WLQ before now is indicative of how difficult it is to resolve without making some major changes that can mess things up and cause problems in other areas.

The Conservatives are now in a strong position because the UK has been 'saved' and they can set about offering their vision of constitutional 'fairness' to the English electorate. Labour, however, are pretty f*cked. If they try and stand in the way of England getting a fairer settlement, they'll pay the price at future elections. However, if they go along with some of the ideas, they won't be able to rely on their Scottish MP's when voting on English only issues (that would potentially cause a big problem for future Labour UK governments).

It's going to be interesting to watch what solutions they all can come up with.

I agree

I didnt think that Labour & Milliband would win the next GE last month but i am absolutely certain they have no chance now.

Cameron seems to have played a bit of a blinder or maybe he just goobered his way to this point but it has certainly worked in the Tories favour.

The question is whether the Tories can get a majority on their own and if not then who do they do a coalition with ?

Will UKIP actually win a number of seats, if any, worth talking about and will the Lib Dems be wiped out

Also will UKIP actually cost the Conservatives seats

Its all up in the air

For the 45 what i hope is;

Tories win and have to go into coalition with UKIP. In out Euro referendum happens.

The UK as a whole votes to come out but Scotland votes to stay in - an immediate indy referendum can be called

Other option is the thought of a Tory/UKIP coalition might be enough for the SNP to run their campaign for the next Scottish Parliament and include another referendum in their manifesto

Question is - will Westminster allow another one if the SNP wins that Scottish election

Maybe im talking cack and thats fine

Personally before another referendum we have to have things in place so that we do not need to rely on currency unions etc and that will take time

Maybe the Euro will be stronger in 5 years time and i cant see where we can get the money within the UK to set up a central bank

Too many questions

One thing - i was never a nationalist before but as you have guessed from the above i am now. I want Independence and away from Westminster more than ever

I have no idea if that is possible and all the hopes of no nukes, protecting the NHS in a constitution and everything else we wanted can ever be achieved now

He was one of the few politicians to regularly get under the skin of Blair during his war year lies. He was remarkable not just for his fearsome debating skills but because he was a memorable voice of truth and good in a sea of evil and lies. He stood and spoke truth when 99% shat it and capitulated. I have disagreed with a few of his decisions along the way of course but I love Alex , he is quality. I do not want him to leave.

And before I forget...this is perhaps another reason for you to join the SNP this week... to thank Alex (and get his ass back). If it (another vote) ever happens no one expects him to lead it (after his last shift which would age anyone) and that role will suit him well.

(edit: sorry typing madness)
