Dalgety Bay TA
Hope the 'unseen fenian hand' and Peter Liewell are on the ball for the draw tomorrow. Anyone bar Partizan will do! Would prefer to avoid Malmo too. Any team who can scud Salzburg 3-0 sound decent to me.
adamntg
After being fairly pleased that Celtic made it through I've been reminded of the torrents of unwarranted cash showered on clubs in the Group Stages which will further destroy any passing notion of competition in Scottish football, so for that reason and that reason alone, I hope they get scudded in the play-off. From that POV Europa league group stage is perfect. They don't make money, but have the distraction. Of midweek European games.

Kenneth Farrington
Yep. Won't be easy but very winnable A tie you'd have been happy to take before a ball was kicked. When you consider we've had to play Arsenal in years gone by, we can have no complaints. No excuses for not qualifying.

Glasgowmancity
If Celtic get through, they could easilly be in pot 3 for the group stages (only need 2 of the 6 seeds above them to lose)

deecie
If Celtic get through, they could easilly be in pot 3 for the group stages (only need 2 of the 6 seeds above them to lose) European seeding seems completely ####ed. That Azeri mob that Celtic knocked out the Champs League weren't good enough to be seeded in the Europa - which seems pretty odd.
Parklife
Was it Malmo that brought on Armageddon for Rangers then? Nah, Maribor beat Celtic too. Malmo beat Hibs 7-0 though...
Kenneth Farrington
Weren't they one of the teams that put you out last year? So many I can't remember... Na, Maribor. Malmo beat the bears the season they died & gubbed Hibs 7-0 in EH1 a couple of years back.
Fairbairn
Did Malmo and Maribor not both beat us in the same season? One punted us out of the Champs League qualifiers and the other the Europa League qualifiers.
daddybuc16
Na, Maribor. Malmo gubbed Hibs 7-0 in EH1 a couple of years back. And brought about the best football chant ever (maybe unless yer a hibee)

They were in "the champions route" so must've won their league, but have a poor coefficient. (One of the few positive developments in the champions league is this "champions route" to ensure some actual champions get in the champions league, and avoid likes of Celtic losing out to a 4th place team like arsenal)

Makes it just a wee bit fairer for some actual league champions instead of the big money also runs.

PASTA Mick
Totally agree on the Champions Route development. Makes it just a wee bit fairer for some actual league champions instead of the big money also runs. It has been a positive move but I think there still needs to be a bigger move towards getting more league champions into the Champions League. Look at this season - Champions 1. Sevilla (Europa League) 2. Barcalona 3. Chelsea 4. Bayern Munich 5. Juventus 6. Benfica 7. PSG 8. Zenit Saint Petersburg 9. PSV Eindhoven 10. Dynamo Kyiv 11. Gent 12. Galatasaray 13. Olympiacos 14. Astana or APOEL 15. Skënderbeu Korçë or Dinamo Zagreb 16. Celtic or Malmo 17. Basel or Maccabi Tel Aviv 18. BATE Borisov or Partizan Non-champions 1. Real Madrid 2. Atletico Madrid 3. Man City 4. Arsenal 5. Wolfsburg 6. Borussia Mönchengladbach 7. Roma 8. Lyon 9. Porto 10. Lazio or Bayer Leverkusen 11. Man Utd or Club Brugge 12. Sporting CP or CSKA Moscow 13. Rapid Wien or Shakhtar Donetsk 14. Valencia or Monaco There could be 5 Spanish sides, 4 English and 4 German sides; 9 of which didn't win their league yet the champions of Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Rep, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Norway, Romania (and a load of other small countries) won't be there and neither will the champions from 5 of the following 10 countries - Albania, Belarus, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel, Kazakhstan, Scotland, Serbia, Sweden & Switzerland. It's pretty shit. I do enjoy watching but I'd much rather it was the Champions of every league only and no seeded draws, just a free for all and yer lucks yer luck. I'm looking at that and seeing more than half the teams are champions... I think 4 and 5 teams from one country is too many though, perhaps reducing this and spreading the wealth a bit would be a positive development. It would also add to the Europa league if teams like arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Porto were in it and treated it seriously (which with more big teamsit, would mean better money, which would mean it would be!)
