Flora MaDonald
Where do I stand with this? He's knocked my maw's hedge doon to build a fence. I marched down to scene of the crime where he was building it (civil at first), then the qûnt says he's getting the polis. As far as my maw and me are concerned, no matter what, we should've been consulted. Surely you can't go knocking down a hedge without consultation to neighbour? Anyway, polis coming at 11. Cannot wait to hear the words of wisdom.

killiefaetheferry
Decide in advance what you want to say to the police and be decisive - don't sit on the fence.
euan2020
depends if the hedge was all on his side - if it was he can do this (my opinion) - if on a shared line he should not be doing this - might also depend if council and he has already got their approval only way police should be involved is if threats have been made - should ask them why he is wasting police time for civil issue -

Och Aye
I'd try and keep it civil. Ideally you want him to maintain the fence in future that includes painting/preserving your mums side. He'll have to come into her garden to do so. Much better than you doing it, it's a bitch of job. Give me a hedge any day.

Toepoke
Pictures on phone if you want see, Titchmarsh. Oor neighbours tried it a couple of years ago. Told them they could cut back their side of the hedge to put the fence up. They managed just a few feet.
teecee-
My mother has been in dispute with neighbours for 7 years due to him constructing a gate to access back [ common] garden. Has descended into farce involving Lawyers, Polis and verbal abuse [ on both sides]. It's down to who dies first, my teetotal fit 86 year old mother or a late fifties alki on 40 a day. sbcmfc
My neighbour took down a hedge and built a fence at the front of my house without asking. I gave him £40 for the wood and painted it for him. Maybe I'm too tolerant.

Maybe I'm too tolerant. One of our neighbours took down the old fence from his back garden that backs onto our front garden, paid for a new one, put it up and painted it, keeps itr well maintained too. Top guy. We like our neighbours ours and it needed done. He didn't take any money either.

tomtscotland
If he's building the fence then the posts and ugly side should be on his side (assuming he is not panelling both sides of posts).
