Government to grant 50 million for this following recommendation from the cross party Holocaust Commission.

In these austerity times it strikes me as a bit strange that money can be found for this. I would feel the same about any other religious group. No doubt there wont be any media criticism - as we all know where undue influence lies.

Id like to think it's a reminder of what the human race is capable of and to try and not let it happen again

We have had similar genocidal acts based on prejudice and hate since World War 2 but not to the same state engineered industrialised rate so quite frankly the more we are reminded the better

What gets me is most times when I hear about the holocaust they usually only talk about the Jewish victims and don't mention all the other groups\minoritys who were persecuted

I always get suspicious when this line is used

Money well spent. I've never been so moved by something that hasn't impacted me personally, as I was when I visited Auschwitz/Burchenwald in October.

We should never allow folk to forget what we're capable of.

Why? At no point have I denied that Jews were killed. I totally agree that the vast majority killed\imprisoned were Jewish but its very very seldom you hear of the gypsies, Catholics, disabled etc that were killed.

All of that is true. But majority rules. But it's important that people keep pointing out what you have pointed out.

I await the memorials for the victims of genocide in Bosnia and Gaza and Syria - or is it too soon?

There is the argument, and it is a fair one, that no genocide is any worse than another and that the end result is the same no matter the scale.

I can see that argument and i agree with it to a point

We are also aware of our history and what mankind is capable of - to each other and to animals

All through human existance there have been acts of brutality and inhumanity especially in war - that is not up for debate

However it is my opinion that there was something far different with the holocaust than any of the others before or since and it took the evil of what we are capable of to another level.

Of course, it goes without saying. What irks me in particular is Israel carrying out to some extent what was inflicted on millions of Jews.
