GrantP
Despite walking/running/cycling on the Clyde & Forth canal every week for the last decade I was totally unaware of a lost village until very recently. Mavis Valley was a small mining village on the opposite bank from the Bishopbriggs Leisure Centre. I'd passed the enterance numerous times without realising. http://urbanglasgow.co.uk/archive/the-forth-and-clyde-canal__o_t__t_1574.html As an aside, my current house is built on the site of the old Woodilee hospital. At one point it was the largest psychiatric unit in Scotland but was demolished in the 80s. Only 2 of the original buildings are left and one is still a ruin. ErsatzThistle
This is Caldwell House. It's a beautiful old abandoned mansion house (latterly insane asylum and then a children's home) in East Renfrewshire that was designed by the famous Scots architect Robert Adam in the mid 18th Century. It's been left abandoned for nearly thirty years now, reputedly haunted too. It's a great example of Adam's architecture but at present it's slowly crumbling away. East Ren Council couldn't care less about it.

Taunton Tartan
Many a happy day playing there. Used to live just up the road(about a mile away) at the Scotston of Usan. Houses we lived in were demolished years ago.
Taunton Tartan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badbea Depending on how far back you want to go, this is a very interesting place to visit. The hike from the A9 is well recommended to get an idea of just how desolate and hard life must have been here.... Not too sure if thats the one I drove past the other year. Had taken the wife for her first trip up the West coast, across the top and back down the east coast. The most animated I saw her was when she saw a sign for the Highland Clearance Village, and asked if we could stop off for a while. I nearly crashed the car wetting myself. She seriously thought it was an outlet centre.

peever1745
Not far away on St. Cyrus beach, isn't there an abandoned settlement also? Hidden in amongst the tall grass just off the beach. I seem to remember an old ruined church with a graveyard and a couple of old fishing houses. To the north of St Cyrus there was the village of Tanglaha which was flooded by a high tide and still remains totally underwater. There is also an old graveyard to the south and some old fisher huts which are now lived in. Pass this quite a lot with the horse as we keep it just along the road from here. College_Boy
Cambusnethan Priory - http://www.buildingsatrisk.org.uk/ref_no/1561 (actually its a cracking website for all at risk buildings across Scotland) Looking through the Buildings at Risk Register it appears a series of objections to planning permissions (especially the ones when it was in good condition) has left the building to end up as its is now. How many buildings have been lost because the proposed development didn't protect the building only for the bulding to then end up as a ruin and eventually be demolished! In the graveyard there can be found the grave of the "Monster Child".

ErsatzThistle
Where about in east ren?? Near a wee village called Caldwell, which is almost on the boundary between East Ren and Ayrshire. If you take the Lochlibo Rd past Uplawmoor you'll come to Caldwell. Caldwell House is located next to Caldwell golf course and between Crow Wood and Melons Wood. There's quite a few pics on urban exploration websites of the building (remaining) interior. It's scandalous that East Ren council have washed their hands of this and whilst it is a listed building, Historic Scotland don't seem to be doing anything about restoring it
