No. but it does come back to the fact that the SFA and Scottish Government have failed miserably in their DUTY to invest - reinvest in facilities and coaching to give our (long in the) future squads the best possible chance of success.

But they should be interfering with sport - thats why they have a Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health.

They would have to authorise planning permission and approve funding in conjuntion with the SFA for more indoor/outdoor facilities for example.

Or insisting that every school has an astroturf pitch

Fully agree with both of your posts. The government has to take some of the blame here, in conjunction with the SFA.

I (like all of us) might be totally biased, but i've never understood why more priority isn't put on the health of our national team by the Scottish governments of the day. As a nation were are fitba daft (with the highest club attendance per capita of all of Europe).

If supposedly bankrupt and basket-case Iceland (according to some Scottish politicians of a certain constitutional persuasion) can afford to invest heavily in their team, why can't we?

Speaking hypothetically here, but if the wee man did decide to call it quits then is there mileage in approaching Lagerback? Don't get me wrong, what he has done with Iceland is nothing short of a miracle, but I can't imagine he is on a massive wedge there. Would the lure of a fat paypacket and a huge say in overlooking all age levels be enough?

Don't get me wrong, I want Strachan to say but I'd imagine we have to look at alternatives.

What, after the SFA overlooked him for Levein last time out? He would be well within his rights to tell them to ram it.

Northernscum - wouldn't blame the guy for doing that to be honest. I'd probably do the same myself. But different SFA board in charge this time though?

Like I said, I want Strachan to stay. But Lagerback is the only viable foreign coach I can think of in the event of Strachan jacking it. Then again, after getting our fingers burned with Vogts then I'd guess the SFA would have hang ups about going down the foreign route. But equally worrying is the lack of capable Scottish gaffers being up to the task. Moyes, for example, wouldn't ditch La Liga.

Off the top of my head (and the internet)

Rijkaard

Michael Laudrup

Villas-Boas

Marcelo Bielsa

Hiddink

Van Marwijk

Cesare Prandelli

Personally not too fussed if Strachan walks (incidentally I way desperate for him to get the gig). On the other hand do I trust the SFA to bring in a suitable replacement? Maybe Strachan will stay and learn from his errors, might be our best hope.

We will all be getting into a state when the SFA roll out the replacement - a Craig Levein clone. Years of no hope - at least for muchvof this campsign we had hope.

But my point is that all of the names mentioned would have got us to at least fourth. I think people struggle to see past Strachan's failings because they like the wee guy.

He failed and we haven't improved. He must go.

After sleeping on it im also not interested in someone who has to "think" about whether he wants to stay on or not 100% behind the idea

Kenny Dalglish knows Jack $hit then?

Strachan needs to admit (doesn't have to be publicly, so long as he admits to himself) that he has made mistakes in this campaign by staying too loyal to certain players and not giving enough form players the opportunity.

The way he carries himself when answering even the mildest of questioning from the media is reminiscent of Levein, where it is his way or the highway.

The tactics he wants to use are going to be stinted by the choice of player we have and how they have been developed to play by their clubs, so it could be time to tweak the system to more suit the guys who are on form now.

Would be great to get Willie Miller on board for a more structured defensive routine as well, I dare say he would be up for it.

There is not the lack of quality in the Scotland squad that we should be in fourth place and six points behind Ireland.

We have just as strong... arguably a stronger squad then them.

Scotland had two opponents that man for man have better squads in this group. Northern Ireland had four and are top of the group they found away to get the better of four other teams that were of better 'quality'.

Scotland found the way to get the better of none of the teams with better squads in the group and finished below one of them.

Spare me this 'mediocre squad' argument. We are not poorer than Ireland and many.many inferior squads find their way through groups anyway.

I'm starting to think he'll walk as well.

He left at Middlesboro and although this is quite different. He was an absolute disaster there. He seems like a man of pride, and seems to have (haven't we all though) taken not qualifying, or at the least making the Playoffs, personally.

Really don't want McLeish, but think he'll get it again too. His stock is tumbling, and there's no way he'll get a good Championship/EPL gig.

If we are going to go for a new coach, we should be looking at foreign coaches ahead of Scottish ones this time. There's no one out there. Well there is, but they'll not come - Alec Neil, McInnes, etc.

Who are the 'real people' Strachan spoke of?

Anyone who thinks Scotland were unlucky.

Strachan actually thinks we should all be grateful the players even try as they are so 'mediocre' it seems.

If you dont agree with him you are 'not real people' or get dismissed as not having '40 years experience in the game'.

why?we haven't moved forward

You have a very short memory my friend. Think back to how abject our performances were before Strachan took over.

It took him a wee while to have an impact but from Zagreb onwards his system is a vast improvement on Levein.

Strachan created an expectation that had gone completely and sadly that expectation hasn't been met.

I'll admit the performances in the second half of the campaign didn't build on the momentum of the first - but I'd say he's plateaued after a decent start, rather than stagnated or stayed still.

The next competitive game after today is not till September. Practically an entire football season. Give Strachan that time to reflect on this campaign and prepare and improve for the next.

And don't expect him to look or sound happy when talking to the press, as a manager he hates the press.

Got to think outside the box and go overseas if necessary

Doesnt have to be Scottish

Example - we could have had Lagerback

The fact that they didn't give Lagerback the job when he was practically on his knees begging for it alone should've meant every single member of the SFA board should've been binned.

That said, now we have Strachan we must keep hold of him. At least the SFA would appear to be getting that bit right at least in offering him a new contract if that is true.

The SFA don't give a shite about the Scotland team, the players, the fans or anyone else but themselves.

As long as they get their wee all expenses paid trips around the world at our expense they never will either.

Far easier to accept the decline in our game and live (the high life) with it than to actually get off their collective fat lazy arses and do something about it.

We need sensible and intelligent former players and managers who actually understand and know more than all about the game running the show.

Appointing Gordon Smith was a step in the right direction and it only didn't work out because a. he was a yes man planted there by the men who took comfort in knowing he would join them rather than rock the boat of shake up what needed shaking up and b. he is a idiot.

The whole SFA board needs to be made up of people who have achieved something in the game and is respected. We need a Scottish football legend running Scottish football.

Look what the Germans have done with Beckenbauer at the helm. He's pissed a lot of people off and he took a lot of the old fogies out of their comfortable existence and ripped it all up. Now Germany is the model for both club and international football and it's no coincidence that they've done this with the same manager in place now since 2006. How many managers have we been through in that time?

When our managers do well they off. Why is that? We can't even sack the shite ones properly without the likes of Levein taking us to the cleaners.

Scottish football is nowhere near as bad as it's made out, yet the SPFL chairman had said our game wasn't worth much. It's the running of the game in our country that is a joke not the Scottish game itself. With decent SFA running things our game has the support and the capacity to do very well.

It's often said that only an idiot would keep doing the same things and expect the outcome to be different each time but this is exactly the SFA way of doing things. Nothing will change until everything changes.

But turkeys won't vote for Christmas and so we can look forward to many more years in the wilderness until we rid ourselves of the clowns trying to run our game. They only thing they are running properly is our game into the ground.
