What Routes Are People Taking?

A number of flights have been released this week and know a number of folk booked up.

I have booked Friday (28th August) until the Saturday/Sunday after the game.

Friday, British Airways Glasgow-Heathrow-Kyiv.

Going with the Mrs and daughter to visit the in-laws, so will either be straight through to Ternopil or a couple of days in Kyiv.

On the Tuesday I am on the evening Ukrainian Airlines flight from Kyiv to Yerevan (Armenia), where I am arranging hotel and a private transfer to Tbilisi the next day after doing some sightseeing (setting off late afternoon and into Tbilisi for 10pm-ish).

Saturday on the Qatar Airlines flight out of Tbilisi at 8pm, into Doha for midnight, night in a near by hotel, before the 8am Doha-Edinburgh flight the next morning.

Got all this for £370 :ok: (minus cost of transfer from Yerevan to Tbilisi.... but from research this route can be done for buttons)

Don't forget the cost of a tourist visa which you will all have to get on arrival into Doha. Used to be 100qr (16quid) per person paid by card only at immigration but may have gone up to 55usd each. With the new airport now in operation the hotels are now a bit further away but if it's a hotel near the old airport (oryx rotana) shouldn't be much more than a tenner each way

Flying Ukrainian Airlines Kiev to Tbilisi on Thursday 3rd.

Then doing it all in reverse on the 7th, taking in the Germany game at Hampden before driving back to Aberdeen.

Taken into account already.

Still £16 if you do it online.

It is the new airport I fly into, and my hotel is only 5 minutes drive away (also operates a free shuttle service to and from the airport).

Shame a Azerbaijan visa is so expensive, as was pretty tempted to go via Baku to get home, but price to go back via Qatar was great I thought (and gets me my extra country LOL)

I'm looking at the following:

Heathrow-Moscow

3 nights in Moscow

Moscow-Tbilisi

3 nights in Tbilisi

Tbilisi-Baku

Overnight in Baku

Baku-Heathrow

All using Avios so cheap as chips. Just waiting on flight schedules to be confirmed.

Good route, though remember Russian and Azerbaijan visa's are ridiculously expensive (though you will probably get away with a cheaper transit visa for Azerbaijan)

Aye, £32.40 for Russia isn't bad; but £100 for Azerbaijan  Might give that a miss...

You're right, £125. FFS. Still, Moscow is high on my to-do list so I'll probably stump that up - easily saving that in flights cos of Avios. Not that fussed about Azerbaijan - Armenia could be a shout though!

TBH Moscow is well worth doing, and if you are going to make the most of it and be there a number of days, you actually do forget the hit for the visa, as it is a amazing city :ok:

How long you recommend for Moscow?

I went for 5 days in 2002 and probably was only the last night and 7 hours the next day before heading to the airport where I started to kick my heels about feeling fed up, as every day there was just something more to see and do.

Red Square, Kremlin, St Basil Cathedral etc (main tourist stuff)... that is a good half to 3/4's of a day to do, but there is a lot of good hidden and out of the way stuff to see.

Nelbo says 3 days he is planning.... if he makes the most of every day, then that should be enough.

Aye, I had a look at a few websites, and most have said that if you make the most of it, 3 days will allow you to see/do everything you want to.
