  1. Iainmac1 Similar story to me and probably 6 stone over 10 years. Loved five aside football and would always play 3-4 times a week. Once the kids came along suddenly found had less and less time to look after myself! Exercise is great and really enjoying the running, To be honest, diet is probably 75% of the issue! If you can sort out the food and drink then exersise is a bonus. Keeping it simple - Eat Less, Drink Less, Sleep more and excercise more.
  2. I've had a great first year running last year, really enjoyed it! For this year I have planned April - Southampton half marathon May - Durrell Challange in Jersey (13km) June - Jersey half marathon November - Marathon either San sebastian again or Valencia (anyone run this one?) I would like to get my half marathon time down to sub 1hr 50 (current PB 1hr 58). Also want to get sub 4hr for my 2nd marathon (1st one 4hr 14min last Nov) First of all want to lose another 2-3 stone which will help me get there!
  3. Cheers Denny's Yard. Had a horrible cold since finishing the run last Sunday and getting restless as wanting to get back out, eve. for a 10k run. I will definitely run a marathon next year, probably around October, November but going to concentrate on the losing a couple of stone and running Jersey and Southampton half marathons in the first six months. Running is good for losing weight but I have probably plateau over last few months do what to concentrate on diet. As you say, get the pace and training correct and aim will be to finish last 7km strongly!
  4. Just ran the San Sebastián marathon yesterday. Great course for first timers and for those wanting a PB. This was my first marathon and managed to get round in 4hrs 14 which I was pleased with. Came down with the cold from Wednesday so was worried about running it as felt crap in the build up to yesterday but adrenaline kicked in. First 35km felt really good but last 7km was a struggle but assume that's normal! The course was 2 laps of the city and was glad that I did not get lapped by the Kenyan who won the marathon. He was entering the stadium to win the marathon when I was starting my 2nd lap! would love to aim for under 4 hrs but going to try to lose a couple of stone next year and aim on getting quicker at half marathon distance before attempting a second! Would definitely recommend this one.
  5. The main point for me now is to make sure I don't go back to being a couch potato! Hopefully after 10 months I have broken all my old bad habits. Even if I cut back running after the marathon I want to keep a decent level of fitness up for 10k and half marathon's.
  6. Looking forward to my first marathon at the end of November in San Sebastián. Started running at the start of the year and could not run 3k! Now managed 3 half marathons this year and 4 stone lighter. i just wish I had started this 10 yrs ago but even at 43 it gives you a new lease of life and energy.
  7. I ran the Southampton half yesterday. Really well organised and enjoyed the run over the inchin bridge. First half in 18 years and really got the bug for it. Signed up for a Jersey half in June. Managed 2hrs and 7 mins which really happy with as was aiming for anything under 2hrs 20 mins. They also had pacers running in the race which was helpful!
  8. Evening. Has anyone entered the Southampton Half Marathon in 2 weeks? Decided to try to get fit at the start of the year and looking forward to my first half marathon in 20 years!
  9. We went at Easter for three days, a couple of years ago. Went self catering. Cycling is great, picturesque villages and great for little bistros, bars etc As someone mentioned, La Rochelle is worth a visit as well.

  11. Flights now booked for the game! 3rd time lucky for attending finals?
  12. Just booked the Westbury hotel. Looks really good and got a decent rate through corporate booking at work!
  13. Very good Grant! I will probably use the Jersey flight unless catching up with anyone from Scotland.
