OLAS
Some may recall my post a few days before the referendum where i said my uncle was counting the postals. He visibly noticed the landslide for NO. This time my Mother is counting them. She is not actively looking (just scanning) but she knows where the X is when she sees them all face down. SNP lead Labour by a wee bit. Her words. I was surprised. She's doing the Glasgow constituencies. Will try to get another update in a few days. We might do this. Auld_Reekie
Im pretty sure sharing this information is illegal by the way. But, braw, get it right roond them. Edit to add: Have I just been hooked? I thought postal votes got counted on the night? Edited April 30, 2015 by Auld_Reekie

Auld_Reekie
Hmmmm. Maybe. I thought it was just verification, followed with counting on the night. Of course, it's perfectly possible to roughly count during verification (as was evident suring indyref).
Khana Lagur
Ask Ruth Davidson - she'll have the inside track on this sort of thing.
Toepoke
Some may recall my post a few days before the referendum where i said my uncle was counting the postals. Kirk
That mean less deid folk voting?
OLAS
But NO didn't win by a landslide. Or was that just postals They did with postal votes. That's what I meant Posted on my phone earlier so couldn't elaborate too much. Batches of 500 (IIRC) are given to tables where the 'counters' scan them for the moment. They are face-down so no one can get a true indication of what was voted for, but if you're clever and see one ballot paper face up, you can work out where the cross is. Lots of black markers used apparently. If what I am saying is illegal, the Scottish Tories should get their house in order first. Postal votes will be counted a week today from 6pm until 10pm. My old dear did mention the odd vote for UKIP and LibDem. Fully expected.
Armchair Bob
They don't count the votes as far as I know. They only do a sample to check the signatures match or something, the votes are pulled out and placed face down. However, observers can 'inadvertently' catch a glimpse of where the pencil mark is through the paper. And it is illegal to share that info before the polls close, hence why Ruth Davidson has been subject of a police inquiry!

They are welcome to hunt me for the inadvertent offerings I passed on.
thewelk
And it's while they're in those piles that they get swapped with piles of labour votes and the others get burned. As soon as they get the whole population onto postal votes the establishment has got everything under control.
