Orraloon
They think that the anchors haven't fired so it might fall off the comet. Hope the ice isn't too slippery.

thplinth
The sound coming from comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko has caught the imagination of hundreds of thousands on social media. The scientists are just as surprised as social media users. Anyone got a link to these 'sounds'?

Curious how it emits sound in deep space.
thplinth
http://www.space.com/27737-comet-song-rosetta-spacecraft.html Wow... that is weird. Was reading today it 'smells' of farts and horse piss as well. "The Rosetta spacecraft was able to pick up the strange, echoed clopping sound, but if a human were floating through space next to the comet, he or she wouldn't hear anything at all. Comet 67P/C-G is singing well below the frequency that the human ear can hear, according to ESA. " So does that mean you would be able to hear it even in space were you ears sufficiently attuned to the low frequencies? edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum Edited November 12, 2014 by thplinth

thplinth
Maybe you are just looking at the dirty bits? Maybe you are just not looking at all? Rosetta has uncovered some surprising features about comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko as it orbits it in deep space. Instead of imaging a bright, ice-covered comet, the probe’s instruments have detected that 67P is in fact darker than charcoal in some wavelengths of light. And scientists working on Rosetta’s Alice instrument have so far failed to find any large patches of water-ice on 67P’s surface. I must admit the constant supercilious response is wearing... Are we going to get to see this thing start to flare live('ish) from the orbiter? If so this landing is only the hors d'oeuvre. Pool Q
Sounds like a few problems may be developing. Hopefully can be rectified.
thplinth
Just watched the press conference. No new images for now but the two top boy scientists (who have I think seen the first surface pictures) look like very pleased with themselves. No ice but darker than charcoal. Graphite is I believe an excellent a very good conductor. I am open minded at this point. scoobydoo
When i was in Germany for the game in September I lived with friends in Darmstadt and managed to get on a tour of the ESO control centre. The tour was in German and mine wasn't good enough to understand 72.7% of it but it was amazing to see mission control and all the screens with trajectorys and shit. They had a full size mockup of all the craft and the lander.and were explaining the enormity of it all.
